Pre-race routine:

Drove up Saturday with RRIZZO(Renee) and got downtown registered and then went and grabbed a bite to eat. Got in touch with CAVU9(Lane) and Trigods(Chris) and set up dinner. Before dinner we drove the bike course and then headed to dinner. Had a great supper and then retreated back to the hotel. I could not sleep to save my life. I dont know if it was anxiousness or the fact our air conditioner sucked and I was hot. Anyway woke up showered then off to the site. We were there before some of the volunteers. Got bodymarked and then set up my transition got on a bus to the UTC rowing center and just hung out. Being a TT start since I was number 899 I had a while.
Event warmup:

Stood in long lines to use the restroom and just tried to keep hydrating because it was going to be a hot day.

Comments:

Well I started off pretty good but for some reason I could not site good and my goggles kept fogging up so I zig zagged along trying to find the current. I really never felt I got in a good rythm and I even stopped to get my bearing and breast stroke several times which to date I had yet to do. Finally get to where they are pulling you out of the water and they yanked me up and fun fun huge steps to go up. So me thinking it was part of T1 I just took my time...nope t! did not begi till you got all the way up the steps across the street and then so.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to work on bilateral breathing because the buoys are on the right as most times and I always breathe to the left.
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Decent T1. I am never fast in my transitions because I feel until I am actually gettting close to competing those extra 30 seconds are not gonna hurt me.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to attach shoes to the bike and thats about it.

Comments:

I want to love the bike I really do and truth be told I love the bike. But I am still slow as molasses on a sunday morning biscuit in Tennessee. (note to self if you get your tail in gear and drop the weight and stop carrying oh a extra 60 pounds you might go a bit faster, but like I say its just resistance training for IMAZ LOL). Any how when you come out of transition you turn right on to the course and a decent size hill awaites you but I just stayed in my seat and did not push it and spun the whole way up. I got a litle false hope because after the top I was cruising pretty good then you opened up into the wind. Yikes 13 MPH. I am a big sail and wind into me just not a good thing. I really need a tri bike so I can get more aero and out of the tooth of the wind.Wait I have one coming in next week!!! Anyway continued out and only got passed a couple times then found my way onto the loop where some people where starting there second loop and me my first so fo a bit there was no way you could keep from drafting. The road was a bit bumpy so you had to watch out. It was well mrked but still I saw lots of people with flats. Well Knowing about the big climb over the hill coming up I started mentally preparing myself for it. Once I started climbing it it was not that bad at all. And thats where hot tri chick said hey how are ya...(we had a moment before the race when our eyes met..it was how do you say electrifing) any way kept on then what goes up must come down and I did 35+ MPH then hit the water station took in a fresh bottle and chugged a power ade and then hit the same loop again only this time it was pretty lonely seeing that I started at the end of the race I only saw three riders left out there. Some were behind me but the way the loop worked our paths never crossed. So headed back into town and luckily a tail wind so seeing 18-20 mph was a bit up lifting. Came down the huge hill and the fun was about to begin.
What would you do differently?:

Besides stop carrying around my resistance training aid just TITS.
Transition 2

Standart T2. Just broke in my new running shoes so I did not have lock laces in em yet but again until I start getting close to placing extra time no big whoop.

Comments:

Well the sh*T hath hitteth the fan. We could go back to the first of the week with me having the flu and basically being drained but who knows the heat I feel was the biggest issue along with the "Technical" run course but anyway. Go through T@ come out hurting a bit but running and then you hit these steps. you know the kind like rocky ran up reah but atleast it was a neat waterfall beside em but any way I walked up them made a turn and then saw the hill...No where near the biggest hill actually pretty small but I would say a stupid grade and as I get to the top of it my stomach starts locking up. Severe cramps but a DFL was gonna be the worst of my day in my mind. Kept going finally hit lots of steep down hills but in the back of my mind you got to go back up em on the way in. So continue just walking and would throw in a 50 yard shuffle at times and as I kept on the were less and less people out there so again the loneliness kicked in. I finally hit the turn around and a guy doused me with a hose so it felt good and I got a bit of life back then the cramps where back. So you hit this one open spot and I look to see about where the finish line bridge is and its nowhere in site so I keep on. As I pass the aid stations they are all about packed up. They did still have water and powerade out but again another dis heartening sign. So back to those hills lets just say they hurt I mean bad. So I get back to the top of the rocky steps and start trying to get in the mind set I am not walking across the finish line so I give it all I got and realized it was a bit furthere that I thought but I kept on and the people that are left start cheering and I hear go BT so thanks to you I dont know who you are but thanks then I hearthe lady with the microphone start taling about me and I see Lane Renee and Chris. Lane hands me a beer and I took it on in and crossed the line. The announcer said it was the best finish they had all day..Thanks Lane!!!
What would you do differently?:

Who knows but I am gong to figure it out!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Beer Lanes birthday cake and some great time just hanging out with everyone. I won a pair of socks. Team Magic puts on great races and they always have door prizes to give out. Oh and they gave out cold towels which was great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I still need to get my butt in gear and loose the weight. Oh and having the flu at the first of the week as well. I feel I was just drained.

Event comments:

Even though it was a hard day I really had a great time. Team Magic is a great company and they do awesome work. I will do this race again and I am coming back with vengence. Oh and hot tri girl if you read this and we did have a moment give me a call!!!
