Pre-race routine:

get nervous and wish i had a wetsuit.
Swim
  • 21m 12s
  • 612 yards
  • 03m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first open water swim. it was scarey until i realized i could actually walk. the seaweed was un-nerving, and so was the many people who kicked and hit me with thier feet and elbows. once i go away from them it was easier. the seaweed still was creepy.
What would you do differently?:

i need to do more open swims (where i don't know) and get stronger at swimming
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

i couldn't run from the beach to the trans area, the concrete hurts my feel (the arches) so i walked as quickly as i could.
What would you do differently?:

need to practice transitions, i really didn't think it would be so hard, and it wasn't i just need to have it more orderly. and make sure my socks are not turned inside out.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 55s
  • 13 miles
  • 12.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I got on the bike and almost fell over casue another racer was yelling at me to go go go! I wasn't in his way so i don't know why he was yelling unless he was having problems with his bike and wanted me out of the way. but the ride was nice, very scenic and about a mile into the ride a deer ran out in front of me, little scarey looking for more deer. but it was beautiful
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn to drink on the bike, almost keeled over twice trying to drink. need to go faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I finally arrived athe the end of the bike course a voleenter yelled "no jump off the bike gracefully" and me ture to form tripped and almost fell, but caught myself and jumped up with my hands in the air with a 'ta-da'!
What would you do differently?:

learn to get on and off the bike
Run
  • 51m 58s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 14m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

my legs felt like rubber bands the first mile, and my ankles hurt, but everyone was very encourgaging as i trodded along
What would you do differently?:

do brick workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

little (very little) stretching and lots of beer. suprisingly I was not sore the next day at all.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

inadequate training

Event comments:

I was out for a good time and i had it. i am hooked and tomorrow will be a good day to start training for another one!
