Pre-race routine:

Got to the race site about 45 mins before it was scheduled to start. Checked in, setup my stuff in transition. Didn't have a lot of time just standing around.
Event warmup:

went for a short ride on the bike with Miguel and Jeremy, maybe 10 mins
Swim
  • 07m 2s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was really rough but it didn't really bother me too much. I got out ahead of everyone except for James so I didn't get caught up by anyone. I was with James until the first buoy and then he got a bit in front of me and finished about 30 secs ahead by the end. Since it was so short, I just hit it as hard as I could with a high turnover. Wasn't quite sure how to handle the last 25m or so when it got shallow, probably should have done some dolphin diving but I tried to run instead. I also aimed straight for the shore instead of the last buoy as I figured it would be faster to run up the beach than swim in the waves and current.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe just the dolphin diving
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Fairly lengthy run up from the beach to transition - time is approx but should be about right. This was the first time I had my shoes on the bike already and put them on while riding - I think it went pretty well but not perfect. Definitely faster than previous races.
What would you do differently?:

More practice with the shoes
Bike
  • 33m 2s
  • 19.32 kms
  • 35.09 km/hr
Comments:

Hit the bike pretty hard - not all out but just under that. Felt pretty good throughout it. Did a flying dismount for the first time leaving the shoes on the bike, that worked pretty well and saved me a lot of time I think.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Pretty happy with this, definitely better than any other I've done. Felt like I got in and out without wasting any time at all.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 24m 16s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 51s  min/km
Comments:

As usual, the run hurt me but it's getting better. I was in 2nd OA until about 1.5k to go then got passed by 3 guys.
What would you do differently?:

Run more!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough running

Event comments:

Didn't seem as organized as last year. There wasn't anyone at the mount/dismount line that was making it clear where the actual line was so there was confusion there. Also wasn't sure if the Olympic and Sprint were starting together until the last minute.
