Total Time = 2h 26m 55s
Overall Rank = 17/42
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

woke up in the tent at around 5:30am, due to honda generator turned on purposely to wake us up. but since we had race prep to do before people showed up for race day, it was necessary.

stumbled to pavilion for coffee, and relieve the call of nature.

proceeded with ingestion of various things to eat...banana, cereal, yogurt, sport bars, etc.
Event warmup:

had a OWS swim race at 8am (prior to tri at 10am), so pretty warmed up from that. most of the time was getting the gear ready, and then riding to transition from camp site.
Swim
  • 19m 40s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

this was the roughest OWS to date. good sized waves all the way. knocked my goggles off 3x due to getting white washed in surf. but good fun !

buoy sighting wasn't too bad considering the conditions.

Note: the T1 time is included in the swim time, which was probably like 4 minutes...being an off-road tri, it took a little longer to get ready.
What would you do differently?:

not much, was pretty fun and went well.

Bike
  • 1h 06m 56s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 11.14 mile/hr
Comments:

bike course was tough due to hills, some muddy sections, general rough terrain. being an off-road course, it was challenging. some tough climbs in 2 sections. 1 stream crossing. beautiful scenary.

Note: T2 time is included in the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

not much went ok. train more ?
Transition 2

Run
  • 1h 00m 19s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

seriously beautiful run, but very difficult. hills all over the place. single track. filled with rocks, and ruts, was running carefully in many spots to avoid ankle injuries.
What would you do differently?:

more trail running !
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

general training for off-road tri's.

Event comments:

absolutely an amazing event. 2 days, multi event (10k trail run, 20k MTB, 800m OWS, and triathlon) I did all the events. So that in itself was a challenge.

since all my triathlons are road based, this is unique because it offers a beautiful wilderness setting with challenging conditions off-road.

highly recommended for those who want something different in their triathlon experience!
