Swim
Comments: Decided to go in Wave 2 this week, since my back of the pack Wave 1 strategy put me in the middle of everyone last week. Wave 2 strategy was to try to go front of pack and i think it worked out better, tho the time seems to be about the same (?). Got out front with about 15 to 20 swimmers and stayed in the back of the front pack. Seemed to have plenty of room for the swim, no bumping, but maybe a little more zig-zagging because of all of the extra space. What would you do differently?: Maybe try to get in with the front of the Wave 1 pack next time? Might help with getting some better drafting off of the faster swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from swim to transition which went pretty good today. Little trouble getting socks on and gloves. Not a super quick T1, but not horrilbe. What would you do differently?: Practice getting socks and shoes on. Have to get the gloves on before i go, i've tried putting them on once on the bike. Not doable on the Off-Road. Bike
Comments: Didn't get passed by too many bikers. Just a handful. Got passed one or two. Seemed like I was out there alone for a lot of the course. Had some trouble with the sharp turns. Legs didn't have a lot of power to start from slow speeds going up hills. What would you do differently?: Maybe take it a little easier the day before. I think my legs were a little spent from the previous three days of training. Transition 2
Comments: Off the bike - trouble racking the bike, because someone took my spot. I think they were on the opposite side of the rack before T1 and put their bike back on my side. Helmet & Gloves off after racking the bike. Stopped at the aid station for a couple of cups of water and boogied. No cramping issues today - YAY! Run
Comments: It was HOT!! A little tought to run. Made it out past the mile mark, maybe another 1/4 or 1/2 mile and had to take a little walking break. Mostly, because I saw a number of other people doing it. I got passed by a good number of people right at the beginning of the run. Probably 10 or more. I managed to get by 2 or 3 other people along the way. Passed one guy right at the end. At times I felt real good. Other times, not so much. Did I mention it was HOT!! What would you do differently?: Hard to say. I just need to keep practicing running. More endurance to keep going at a good pace, more efficiency - so it doesn't take sooo much energy to keep a good pace up and more speed, which i guess would be a combination of the previous two comments ! Post race
Warm down: DRINK!! DRINK!! DRINK!! BREATH!! DRINK!! DRINK !! What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT! Carried too much training into the race. Event comments: It's great to be able to run the same race course as many as 10 weeks in a row to get feedback on how your performance is changing (hopefully improving). Great feedback for what you need to work on. Last updated: 2010-07-08 12:00 AM

Got home at 4pm, quickly packed up my gear. My car trunk would not shut, so after 15 minutes of futzing around with it, used some cable tie-wraps to keep it closed so that i could mount my bike rack and my bike and hope it didn't fly off the back of my car on the way to the race. A little agitated and a little late. Finished the last few details and boogied on out to the race.
Miraculously, almost no traffic in the normal backup, so i got there in plenty of time to take a 5 minute run (plenty in the krazy heat) after setting up my transition area. Headed down to the lake for a quick warm-up swim and waited for Wave 2.
