Overall Rank = 53/299
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 13/38
Pre-race routine:

Woke up to eat (peanut butter, whole wheat bread, and grapefruit) and have coffee 3hrs before. Got to race site over an hour early to scope things out, packet pickup, etc.
Event warmup:

Biked the beginning of bike route, 5 minutes or so and back, ran a few minutes, swam a few right before start.
Swim
  • 10m 54s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Signed up for "elite" wave, as registration form suggested it if you intended to finish in under 1:25. In hind sight I'd have passed, as it's been quite a while since I did a wave start, and my swim training has been minimal this year. Got cut off at buoys, etc.
What would you do differently?:

More swim workouts...relied on good swim background, but end up burning a little too much energy not being smooth and steady.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

I didn't have far to run to mount line and don't feel fast having shoes already clipped in. So, slipped shoes on and clipped in at mount. I can slide my shoes on while putting glasses and helmet on.

Here was one benefit of choosing "elite" - the race gave elites designated spots at the end of racks so didn't have to fish the bike out between others.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I had a top 10 T1 - solid.
Bike
  • 48m 4s
  • 16 miles
  • 19.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. Lots of rolling hills. Very little flat sections. Too bad the final good downhill ended at the dismount. No chance to run that high speed out a while. This was another downside of racing elite - just didn't see that many people on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Nice rolling dismount and run with bike, struggled just a bit with the tongue of the shoes and speed laces. This was the first time I raced with those shoes and speed laces.
Run
  • 22m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt solid on the run. Good as this was my focus for the last month. My run usually doesn't match up with my swim and bike performance. This time it did. Had a bit of muscle cramping at my left shin, but was able to finish strong.
Post race
Warm down:

Heat and humidity was starting to build at the end of the race, so just tried to cool down with water and stay in the shade. Later did some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Doing minimal swim workouts, and not doing many speed/strength workouts on the bike.

Event comments:

Nice race, well run, with a "brunch" meal for athletes afterward. Good venue.
