Swim
Comments: Felt really good on this swim but I was still pretty out of breath when I got out of the water. What would you do differently?: Do some more open water swimming. The last time I was in open water was four months or so ago. Transition 1
Comments: There was a long hill up from the swim exit into transition so the transition time is a bit skewed. Unfortunately I walked most of the hill sucking wind trying to get my breath back. This may have been the start of the downfall of my race but there's not much I could have done different for this part. Bike
Comments: I went out way to hard on the bike really pushing on the downhills. I was warned that the course was hilly but didn't really take the advice seriously enough in hindsight. I haven't done a ride of under 20 miles since my last sprint race in March so I didn't pace my effort well at all and am slightly disappointed with the result, but more so with how it may have affected my run. What would you do differently?: I know it's a sprint but I shouldn't have been hammering so furiously at the beginning may have allowed me to be more consistent over the rest of the course. I should have let my HR get down still from the swim before I started pushing. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good transition. What would you do differently?: I forgot my race belt and ended up using some zip ties to put my number on in transition, other than that just move a tid bit faster. Run
Comments: This is the worst run performance I've ever had in a sprint and I really wish that I knew what went wrong. I didn't even make it through the first mile without having to walk. and after about half the run my HR was shooting through the roof anytime I tried to go any faster than a slow slow jog. I don't know if I was just not hydrated or not used to the humidity or if my week off from running had a bigger effect that I had anticipated. Either way I'm very disappointed with the run and really feel I left six or seven minutes on the table from what I should have been capable of even in these conditions. Post race
Warm down: Well there's a first time for everything. I had shallow breaths and headed over to the med tent. They got me some super cold water and an ice pack to try and cool me down. Let the HR slow and the breathing rate as well. It took a good 30 minutes before I felt closer to normal. What limited your ability to perform faster: I wish I knew the answer to this question. Heat? Humidity? Bad Pacing? who knows... Event comments: The race itself was very well put on and I was glad I had the opportunity to do it. Thanks again to Texwilk for the invite and hopefully my next sprint will be less disappointing. Last updated: 2010-07-08 12:00 AM

Pretty cool idea for a race. Basically people team up in sets of two and your combined time is used to determine placings. I ended up teaming up with Texwilk as his friend who was going to race ended up backing out at the last minute. Unfortunately I couldn't keep up with his blistering pace but it was still a ton of fun.
Got in a short swim in the lake looking directly into the sun at the start.
