Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:45 am. Packed the truck and ate a PB sandwich and drank a small cup of coffee. I did not get the banana because it was not ripe even though I bought it a week ago.

Drove to the race site. Set up transition and then waited a bit before it was time to warm-up.
Event warmup:

Did about a 1/4 mile jog and stretched. Walked over to the swim start and then did about a 200 yard swim before the race started.
Swim
  • 10m 11s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

I thought I did better in the swim than the numbers show. I got off to a good start and was able to stay on Tif's feet and draft, but I was not able to stay there the entire swim. My arms did feel a bit heavy in the last 100.
What would you do differently?:

I lost five days of training due to umpiring a baseball tourny so that had an impact. I would make sure to still get my time in the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Going sockless helped the transition a bit...but it still is slower than I would like.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to work on getting in my shoes and out with the bike. More practice in this area.
Bike
  • 43m 45s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.20 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a tough ride for me. My legs were tired almost before I started the bike. I was really having to keep focused on pulling with the legs and not get lazy. I also had to shift into a higher gear and try to keep the cadance up for the last four miles of the race. This affected the average speed because I was hoping to be 20+ on this course.
What would you do differently?:

Being without tubes and unable to ride for most of the week before the tri did not help. Just need to make sure and get the miles in on the bike and the legs will be better. Also, umpiring for an entire week takes its toll on the legs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

This was slower than normal. When I got off my bike to run it in my legs almost folded under me. I had to walk to bike right after getting off and then it was a slow jog to the rack.
Run
  • 32m 20s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

This was just a matter of surviving the run and making it to the finish. The legs were cooked after the bike and I was just trying to keep a respectable pace. I am pleased with the pace that I set because I really thought I was hoving close to a 10 min mile. The sun was brutal on the fist and last mile of the run...but the shade cover of the woods was welcomed in the middle portion.
What would you do differently?:

Same as everthing else...the lost week of training made an impact.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank losts of water and kept a cool towel on my head and neck. Did some walking and stretching.

Ate a bit of food and hung out witht he BT peeps.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Legs were tired from the umpiring the week before and I did not have enough time to rest them before the race.

Event comments:

I liked this race. The course is great and has the ability to be fast. The only thing I would like to see is a few more drink stations on the run. Otherwise good race and I will be back next year.
