Swim
  • 33m 22s
  • 1320 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went okay this was my first ever race and the start was what I expected. I started in the back of the pack and it was the right place to be. I caught up to a few pairs of feet and bumped sides with one guy but nothing too bad.
What would you do differently?:

I need to do more lake swims.
Transition 1
  • 05m 4s
Comments:

I didn't realize I spent that much time in T1. I need to push a little harder
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Bike
  • 2h 08m 53s
  • 13 miles
  • 6.05 mile/hr
Comments:

I underestimated this part of the race so much its not funny. I didn't bring my water bottle just took my camelback (MISTAKE)!!! I had a pinch flat at about mile 3 shortly after starting the long section of single track. I found the first hole fairly fast had it repaired and started pumping the tire back up and the tire wouldn't hold air. I took the tube back out and couldn't find the second hole. walked the tube to the lake found the hole patched it aired up the tire and hoped it held to the end. I considered turning around and quitting at this point it was a short ride back to the start but I wasn't about to DNF my first race.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the whole course and BRING MORE WATER
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

I was shot at this point
Run
  • 1h 40m 32s
  • 5 miles
  • 20m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I was spent from the bike and walked the entire way I tried to jog but it just wasn't there. My hamstrings wanted to cramp most of the way. I didn't drink enough. I should have at T2 but didn't think about it. There was 1 water station at mile 1.5 on the run and that was the first and only water station I saw other then T2. I had 2 cups water and 2 cups electrolites at mile 1.5 still not enough.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more I really think the lack of hydration was a huge factor for me.
Post race
Warm down:

die at the end on the grass in the shade had a bottle of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the biggest thing was hydration and lack of experience on the mountain bike.

Event comments:

The course could have been marked better on the trails. On the roads there were people telling you where to go. This is a tough race because much of it is remote and there is nowhere for water stations though I can think of 2 more places 1 on the bike and 1 on the run where it would be possible.
