Swim
Comments: lots of slower swimmers, very surprised to see that. water clarity was about 1 foot. What would you do differently?: Could have started more mid-pack. Transition 1
Comments: first had trouble getting swim cap off - suctioned itself to my head. did good in T1 once I got there. socks and shoes on quickly.. faster than the guy next to me not putting on socks. on bike - got first foot clipped in okay, had a little trouble getting second foot clipped in and staying out of the way. What would you do differently?: need more practice getting on bike Bike
Comments: a person can have the best set of wheels in the world... but if the engine sucks, it's pointless. I really struggled with the hills (again) and I haven't spent enough time with the new bike to get used to all of it's quirks and weight balance issues (or my balance issues). Did NOT have water with me - big mistake! What would you do differently?: more time.. well, any time on the bike would be a good start. did no training 6 weeks prior to event. remember to coat the "undercarriage" with anti-friction goo. Transition 2
Comments: unclipped 100 yards too early. but did okay after that. quick rack and shoe swap, got right back out there. What would you do differently?: wait longer before unclipping Run
Comments: I stretched some before the swim and that helped - but not enough. had to stop 1/2 mile in to stretch out shins/ankles. lost 2 minutes but it was worth it. Motivated one person through the 1/2 way point, and pushed another person towards the end and we both finished strong. What would you do differently?: run a little bit pre-race and do some deep stretching. ignore others on my "A" race and run at race pace, not fun pace. Post race
Warm down: mist tent, walked 1/2 mile, got food. What limited your ability to perform faster: I did almost NO training for 6 weeks before the race. nothing except a 500 meter swim (in a wetsuit) the day before the race, and a 5 mile bike ride earlier in the week at leisure pace. Event comments: great weather this year! Glad to have the finisher plaque again instead of the finisher hat. Lots and Lots of volunteers, and a big thanks to the local and state law enforcement for their assistance. Last updated: 2010-07-11 12:00 AM
