Pre-race routine:

Found out about mom's surgery the day before. Maybe this, or maybe the trip alone, got me WAY out of focus. Didn't have my normal breakfast (left it at home), and got to the site early to get packet, and just knew I wasn't sharp.
Event warmup:

Ran a bit and swam a bit. Felt OK. Not great.
Swim
  • 30m 37s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Never felt good during the swim, though my training should have been fine. Felt sick at times, maybe even threw up a little. Got hit in the face three times, which I can usually avoid. Just felt slow and not good.

Was in the water 3:45 longer than last year. Terrible.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Fine. Decided to go with socks so that I wouldn't have to after bike. Was pretty fast. Still not feeling good, so took Clif bar with me.

Stayed pretty strong. Left hamstring cramps were a problem. I need to get this fixed.

Decent amount of time on the bars, though not as much as last year.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 57s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.38 mile/hr
Comments:

This was hard. Was still feeling pretty sick much of the time, so unsure about when to eat and what.

Got passed a lot, as usual. Official stats say 18.4 mph, this says 19.4. Must be some discrepancy on the length. My computer says 18.2

All that seems better than last year's 17.9 official -- but my time was the same.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Somehow didn't do my flying dismount, even though I had my shoes unclip and planned it. Oh well.

Run
  • 53m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Had hoped for 8:00 miles, but with the heat, it was clear it couldn't happen. Just made myself jog when necessary, and tried to only walk through water stops. Mostly successful. And the ice in the hat thing really works.

Hamstring cramped once appx mile 2. This is getting to be a problem.

Strong finish.

Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of focus? Burnout? Distraction? Who knows.

Really re-evaluating things now. Doing halfIron in the fall just doesn't seem like something I want to train for right now.

Event comments:

Still like the race -- even if the awesome cold showers were turned off this year for some reason (working the day before).
