Pre-race routine:

Start was at 8:10 and transition closed at 7:30. We wanted to be there by 7, or so. I woke up at 5:40 and showered and had coffee. Packed my transition back and inflated the tires. Valerie picked me up at 6:30 and we headed to the site.
Event warmup:

No breakfast before hand. I swam a few strokes and used the lake. No need for port-o-can today so that was a bonus.

Ate one HoneyStinger at 7:30 as we left transition. Had a second one ten minutes before the start. That was all my nutrition for the race. I did drink water before hand as well.
Swim
  • 16m 28s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was pretty good. During the warm up I felt the chip strap moving up and down my leg so I tightened it. It was source of distraction during the race. At one point I felt like it was falling off so I stopped to check it. Not sure why. If it had fallen, I would not have been able to find it.
What would you do differently?:

Not stop.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Not the most graceful jump onto the bike ever, but I stayed up right and got into my shoes just fine.
What would you do differently?:

I should have practiced a couple mounts the day before because my mount sucked.
Bike
  • 30m 47s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 21.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. I tried to push fairly hard knowing it was short, but I wanted to save something for the run as I was trying to run 6:30s or better. I had a hard 42 miler the day before and I felt it on the first couple hills, but that's normal.
What would you do differently?:

Not try and stay with the lead group at the ATC ride on Saturday morning before the race.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

good, fast transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 19m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. I pushed it the whole time. I had to pause at the first mud puddle to navigate around it and my shoe actually came off my heel so I had to fix that quickly.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Got water and saw Jake and Robin. I really enjoyed watching Jake run across the line after his Daddy!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mud

Event comments:

A fun race as always. The High Five Events are some of my favorites.
