Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3:30am and pretty much tossed and turned till 5:15am. Packed the night before so up and downed a banana w/PB and grabbed my 20oz ice cold Diet Mt. Dew for the trip downtown. Got transition area set up and introduced myself to the 3-4 guys on each side of me. @6:15am, downed my final nutrion of whole grain bagel w/PB and started sipping on Poweraide bottle.
Event warmup:

At about 6:30am I started doing a lite active dynamic cardio routine of some running, squats, jjacks and pushups for 3 sets. Grabbed a Powergel gu and sipped poweraid for the walk to the swim start. Took the gu 20 min before schedule race start and finished PAid. Got into water and swam for about 10 min before lining up

Comments:

Great swim for me. the most comfortable swim i've yet this year. I became relaxed immediately and rarely got out of my breathing rythm.
What would you do differently?:

Rank myself a little stronger in the swim ability. It seemed i was passing people the minute I got in.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Got slowed down getting socks onto the wet feet. need to try going sockless for the bike portion.
What would you do differently?:

Go sockless

Comments:

Need to determine a better HR zone to train at to bump up into that 22.o mph level
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend the money and get fitted properly to my bike. I purchased of craigslist and have just ridden it the way i got it. probably worth the cast to have it tweaked to fit me.
Transition 2

Comments:

What would you do differently?:

try getting my feet on top of the shoes before dismounting
Run
  • 56m 32s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm stuck at a 9 min mi pace. need to train differently to improve on my running pace
What would you do differently?:

train smarter and differently to improve pace time
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, great pics with family and downed 2 ice cold diet cokes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

running pace needs improvement

Event comments:

I love this event and is the highlight race of my season. I hope that it continues to grow in it's popularity and prestige. should become a mini-chicago
