Swim
Comments: Started towards the middle, but stayed to the outside. Went out fast, keeping my head up to stay clear of feet and scared myself a little bit as I got breathless pretty quick. Got some clear water after about 30 seconds and settled into a pretty good pace. Was able to do sighting and actually passed a bunch of swimmers. What would you do differently?: Probably not start so quickly or work at getting my HR up a little higher in warm up (don't know if this is possible) so it's not such a shock when the race starts. Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble clipping in and still was a little slow getting my shoes on. Also realize I'm slow to mount my bike. In looking at the transitions of the top 10 in my age group, my time seemed to be right in line or a little better and an improvement from last year (2:02). What would you do differently?: Practice with shoes and mounting bike a little quicker Bike
Comments: Did great on the climbing, held my pace at 5 mph on the hard climb, which is what I did in training last week. Had a little trouble on the downhill because my brakes started squeaking. Once things flattened out, felt great. Worked a lot on keeping my cadence consistent and shifted gears a lot more often than I normally would which kept me from being passed as often as at Loveland. Still was passed, but also did my fair share of passing. Drank 24 oz of water and ate about 14 honey stingers (224 calories) What would you do differently?: The only thing was out of my control. Because I didn't get my bike back until Friday, was concerned when I heard the squeaking in the brakes and was more tentative on the downhill. Squeaking went away and didn't give it another thought once the downhill was over. Transition 2
Comments: Handled this transition well. Got in and out quickly, but again, realized I come to a complete stop before getting off my bike. I was definitely longer in transition than those in the top 10 in my age group, but the timing was an improvement for me from last year (1:33) What would you do differently?: Work on getting off my bike while moving. Run
Comments: I felt great on the run! My legs were not heavy or tired at all. Right from the start I felt good, fast and was able to maintain my pace for the duration of the run. Thinking shifting gears more often on the bike helped. Took a few sips of water at each of the stops. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walking around, stretching, drinking water and watching others finish What limited your ability to perform faster: Concerns about integrity of bike due to squeaking brakes Better transition between bike and run Event comments: Very organized, plenty of volunteers, no long lines in/out of transition at start/finish of race. Body marking and timing chips were handled very well. Plenty of support on the course. Limited bathroom access before race, which caused some to miss wave starts Post race food was poor compared to last year Last updated: 2010-07-12 12:00 AM

Got about 7 hours of sleep.
Alarm went off at 3:45, drank a cup of coffee and ate breakfast about 4:15 (oatmeal, vanilla yogurt, almonds and blueberries)
Left for race at 4:30, drank 20 oz of GU20 on the way to race and arrived at transition at 5:30. Set up, listened to iPod and ate half a banana. Bathroom lines were long, so after set up and mapping out my location, spent a lot of time in line. No HR monitor for this race.
Got into water about 10 minutes before my wave and swam about 25-30 yards
