Pre-race routine:

usual breakfast. ride down to race site w. jo. bright sunny morning. pretty cool to see all the activity and spectators assembling on a an early bright sunday morning. inspirational.
met up with crew of volunteers from track club to make sure they had assignments and t-shirts. fun bunch of peeps
Event warmup:

jog around a bit, short swim to get used to water. checked out swim entrance and exit the day before so knew the course and water temp. swim entrance was rocky and slick, had to watch that.

felt good for the wim . comfortable with the distance and speed. seeded right in the mix of it all. had to watch the contact tho. no wetsuit and felt ok with that. no need for it.
What would you do differently?:

not much, been swimming alot so feel confident just not fast

good t-1. jog out of water and along to zone. had bike all set up for the 'shoe' transition so just grabbed the bike and ran. little trouble getting shirt on with water but ok. guessing on the time since the race site hasnt posted all my times.

big issue was after t-1 and before bike, just as I was about to mount pedals the dang elastics came apart and dropped the shoes to a dangle. fiddle with them and finally took them off pedal and put on feet. screwy, have to practice

after the shoe fiasco the actual ride was good. drank often. kicked it thru the riders ahead of me. saw a couple people I knew and had a brief chat. couple minor odd noises from bike but overall no problems.(had bike in shop for some issues, days without any work being done, finally 5 min. before closing the mechanics did some, not all, the repairs, very frustrating since bike was not right)
slipped shoes off early. misjudged the bike dismount area but not a big issue

overall good t-2. smooth. had speed laces all set so worked good. legs went into run mode pretty easy. getting hot out tho.

felt good on run. didnt feel super fast, kinda hot out and no shade. did the best I could for the day. dumped water on head now and then. gotta work on negative thoughts.

few factors. overall good race.
