Pre-race routine:

Trying to figure out the bike I had just borrowed
Event warmup:

Watching everyone else to learn what to do and setting up equipment
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1640 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

Out and Back - My first swim and had only been swimming for three weeks. I ended up finding someone I could pace myself with and stuck with him.
What would you do differently?:

Warmed up more. I got a cramp in my leg like an idiot. Oh I need to swim more than a few laps before the next race!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

My first Transition ever. Had to figure out my wet suit. Massage the cramp in my calf, and then figure out my bike. It was fun. I sort of just took in the moment and watched other folks.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my bike at least once before the race!
Bike
  • 00m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Since I had never road biked before I paced myself. I was concerned about the "hill" since I had never ridden my bike up a hill. Overall it was fun except the crazy cross winds!
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little more and carry an extra water bottle. I learned the bike is the best time to hydrate and of course I was not prepared. Hey it was fun though!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again was not sure what was going on. Almost ran into folks doing a team transition. Had some guy lost in front of me and he criss-crossed the transition area. Got my bike mounted and then realized I had no idea where my running shoes were. Again Fun!
What would you do differently?:

Be more prepared ( I was a boy scout when I was younger!)
Run
  • 00m
  • 6.21 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good the entire run except my cramp in my calf came back. Towards the end I realized I was dehydrated and getting over heated. I poured lots of water on my at the last station and pushed it hard. Overall I was happy with my run considering I had not really trained.
What would you do differently?:

Hydration...oh and train....I learned about training "bricks" about a week before the Tri.....
Post race
Warm down:

Where was the ice and cool drinks? Everything was hot! Thanks to my wife for being there and my son for pouring water on me. Got my cramp rubbed out though....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Oh maybe train a little more than two weeks.

Event comments:

Considering I have nothing to compare this race against I had a blast! I am hooked and will actually run, bike, and swim before I sign up for the next one!
