Event warmup:

My plan had me running 45 minutes today so did 0.9 miles easy jogging with a couple of walk breaks. Knee felt good running. I strength trained this morning and had just iced it before the run.
Run
  • 32m 22s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I wanted to run a negative split and was happy I could. Felt that the hour strength this morning meant my legs would be slightly tired so this would be good prep before my Sprint next weekend.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Event comments:

I did not know BT's Lucy but have looked through her blogs. Seeing the deterioration in her typing and the spirit and frustration she vented is spooky. On my run today I thought of many people. I started with my Mom who died in 2005 at age 69. We only had 3 very tumultuous mos between her dx of metastatic renal cancer and her death. Many things went unsaid before it was too late to say them. I thought of my brother Eugene who died in a car accident at age 47 last year. He left behind 7 yo twin sons. He was a natural runner and although he had stopped running, I always imagined he would start again someday and we could share that. I never entered a race with him but my husband did and it was fun to cheer for them in a St Patrick's Day road race many years ago. As I picked up my pace for the last mile I asked BT's Lucy to help me HTFU. It felt good trying to run a little faster. I ended my run at a tree that still bears the scars of a car wreck. A small wooden cross with blue plastic flowers is always there in memory of 17 yo Jon Converse who died there on a rainy fall evening 3 years ago. Lastly my cool down took me past the river where 18 yo Patrick Murphy was killed in a boating accident over 2 years ago. Alcohol and anger had tragic consequences that day. I still remember the helicopters in the night flying low over my house searching for him.

Such sadness can be overwhelming. I think it no coincidence that on my way to work out this morning I heard a review of the play "Disappearing Number" on NPR. At one point a character who is a mathematician, is explaining string theory -"imagine two lines stretching away forever, always getting closer but never touching — though theoretically, she says, "those two lines do actually meet ... in infinity. The impossible is possible."

There are no gaps in time or in place. We are all connected.
