Pre-race routine:

Got up around 7 AM..ate a Cliff bar and had 16 oz of Endurance...tried to figure out what to wear since it was cold and quite windy. The race was 2 miles from the house and started at 10. so I left at 9:15 to get there. Registration and number pick-up was smooth.
Event warmup:

Streched for 5 minutes. Ran some sprints to get the blood pumping and get warm!!
Run
  • 27m 42s
  • 3.1 miles

Comments:

Lots of head wind the whole way, after the first mile I was locked onto my pace and felt pretty good. I haven't run on a lot of hills this year so I was happy with my performance. Passed a group of eight on the way to the finish line. I had tried to pass them before but they kept picking up the pace on me everytime I tried..so I waited until mile 3 marker and sprinted past them to the finish...small victories are great!
What would you do differently?:

I need to run outside more and get off the treadmill, run some hills...which are all I have in my area. Need to drop another 10 lbs...that will help as well.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, H20, and what is that...mmmm a cinnamon roll (miniture) and a Powerade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

As stated above overall fitness and hill running

Event comments:

It's a small race but was well organized had police in the neighborhhod controllin traffic and volunteers on a few corners. Not alot of cheering, but who would want to cheer this morning...cold!!

Performance: Good
Course: The course is through a neighborhood I used to run in..so I knew it was goingto be hilly. Lucky for me I have been running on the treadmill for the most part!! I would say the course was a rolling one...except for one hill around mile 2 it was a long hill that lasted for about .4 mile..not too steep but just enough grade to get your legs burning. Downhill sprint to the finish.
