Swim
Comments: I was disappointed in my swim. I navigated the buoy line all the way out but on the way back I couldn't get my bearings on direction and kept getting off course. Probably swam extra yards!!! What would you do differently?: Besides the obvious of improving my swim pace, I need to focus on sighting and navigating better. Transition 1
Comments: Wet suit got stuck, so I sat down. My fingers were numb so I fumbled around a bit. What would you do differently?: I think I am going to cut the wet suit at the ankles for better in & out. Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike. Good improvement from last year's time. Was able to pass quite a few riders, especially on hills. Downhills were good, felt really in control. Did one bottle of endurance w/carbo-pro and 5 gel blasts (only 25g crabs). What would you do differently?: Keep training on those hills. Probably should've taken in a few more gel blasts toward end of ride. Transition 2
Comments: This went well. What would you do differently?: Grab a bottle of sports drink for first mile. Run
Comments: This was one of my best runs. My pacing plan was to stay within +/- 10 second pace of my first mile (10:04). Kept every mile under 10:00. Felt good! Took a gulp of Heed and aid stations. Felt a heel blister on last mile, so I had to block it out of my mind! It was great to see Carol and my parents on the run course cheering me on. What would you do differently?: Wear my socks at Ironman! Frontload by fueling a little better off bike into first mile run. Post race
Warm down: Crossed finish line 1 minute after my sister April (first race together) so we hugged at the finish. Walked around to avoid being stiff. Hung out to watch other finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing really. This was a training race for Beach to Battleship in November. There was absolutely no taper going into this race. I rode 85 miles on Friday, ran 12 miles on Saturday and raced on Sunday! Event comments: I love this race. Score-This and others involved do a great job. It's the perfect area and course! Stayed overnight in town. Got up at 4:30am, showered and had breakfast (bagel with jelly). Got to the site with plenty of time to set-up and hang out.
Put wet suit on during pre-race meeting. Went down to water and got in for a few minutes to get used to the temp.
