Swim
Comments: My swimming is about 85% where I would like it to be. Have been really easing back into it this summer. I know my cadence is a bit slower so wasn't expecting miracles here. Suprised how cold water was, about 9 degrees cooler than average temps. Felt great though. Had to line up pretty far right at the start as the current was pushing everyone inside the buoy. Somehow must have overshot the buoy and ended up way too far out and had to swim back in to shore to get back on track to 2nd buoy. Heard a lot of people have this issue, maybe outgoing currents? Overall, good swim not great and happy that I had a lot left in the tank and could hold that pace well for upcoming HIM's. What would you do differently?: Maybe site a bit better off the turns. Also did not draft anyone which is always nice to have. Water was not that clear and some seaweed along the way. Suprised no sea lice afterwards. Transition 1
Comments: Everything went well as planned. Had spot pretty far from water exit so had a little run to get there. Probably lost 10 seconds when helmet strap wouldn't fasten. Happy with mount etc. What would you do differently?: Need to practive that a few times with new helmet. Bike
Comments: I showed my lack of hard training on the bike. I foudn good cadence and gear and kept things comfortable. Maybe too comfortable, but also did not have a good gauge other than cadence since bike computer decided not to work. Passed a bunch from earlier waves, but that gives perception of goign faster than I really was. Should have been able to knock off at least 2 minutes here, but... Can't complain because my bike and I have been on/off friends this season. Lord help me and the Clermont hills in a few weeks. What would you do differently?: Just work at it. Can't be upset, but know that this is where I can make up a lot of time next year and in general. Transition 2
Comments: Felt great since never burned the legs on the bike. Dismount was right on and found my rack pretty easily. What would you do differently?: Not much... Run
Comments: Unlike the Bike, I have been staying in decent run shape so this was good time for me. Have zero speed work in my trainng so counted on a light bike to get my legs to the finish. Happy with the time and pace. Had a young kid running with me last .50 a mile and he was good pacer. I had pretty fresh legs towards the end, but noway I was going to show him up after hearing his huge cheering session. I passed a bunch last mile and felt great at the end. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed a lot harder last 300 yards or so and maybe saved 10 seconds, but wouldn't have mattered. Happy with time. I have been training for longer distances at a 8:30-9:30 pace so this was all I had speed wise. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a bottle of water and looked for family. They slept in which was fine by me so I called them afer going back to transiiton. Talked to a few folks at the racks and then grabbed a bite to eat and sat in the shade. Packed up my things and rode back to hotel. So nice not to have to take a car to the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just not training for sprint mindset and definately need to get Bike as #1 focus. Event comments: They do a great job every year and kudos for the ice cold water at aid stations! Plenty of volunteers and they were great. Tried to stay around for awards, but they waited way too long. Don't think they got started until well after 10am. I respect waiting for last finsher, but that was around 9:30am, so can't explain the holdup. I don't think more than 30 people hung around to receive awards. That said, it was fun and I will always be back. Last updated: 2010-07-16 12:00 AM

Spent weekend at hotel next to race which was really nice. Had good night's sleep due to cable being out. Had banana and clif bar and sipped on gatorade endurance bottle. Woke up around 4:45am and out the door by 5:20am. Rode the bike all of .5 mile to the race. Took a gel prior to leaving transition.
Got in the water and swam about 300-400 yards with a few intervals to get the blood flowing, that was about it. Felt really comfortable before start and just wanted to have solid race as warm up to A & B races next few months.
