Pre-race routine:

Coffee, cereal, banana, clif bar, Tool.
Event warmup:

Stretched out, a little jogging
Swim
  • 29m 29s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Either the hammer gel or drinking milk in the morning made me get stomach cramps early, didnt really affect my goal because I wanted to go sub 30:
What would you do differently?:

Not swim so far to the outside of the group. Not throw up in my mouth
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

T1 went pretty smooth. Not real fast but I didnt really make any mistakes.
What would you do differently?:

Pick it up a bit
Bike
  • 1h 20m 15s
  • 28 miles
  • 20.93 mile/hr
Comments:

My goal was to maintain a 20 mph pace for the 28 mi course. I ended up at 20.9 so Im happy with those results. The course was very flat in comparison to where I train around Salisbury so I was able to give it what I had. A couple of the ol country roads had bumps that were annoying but didnt affect my performance.
What would you do differently?:

Not put gatorade in my water bottle. My stomach wasnt back to normal yet and gatorade just wasnt what it wanted. Water would have been great.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Another smooth transition though it wasnt fast I didnt do anything stupid
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace
Run
  • 47m 4s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Was experiencing some stomach cramping on the run but I dont think it affected my performance. I wanted a sub-45 10k but I missed it by a little over 2 min. Still pr'd my 10k. I was thirsty from not drinking my gatorade on the bike so the water stations were great. Last 2 miles in paced with bib# 64, Nice job Harvey.
What would you do differently?:

My running is getting better so I just need to train more and keep up the work.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around to cool down, drank some water, coke, once my stomach settled attacked the sammiches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not gon make excuses because I made the goal to finish sub 2:45 but I gotta think that if my tummy didnt hurt would I have shaved even more time??

Event comments:

I was extremely happy with the course, the promoters, the hotel and staff, the town of Washington. All of the other participants were great as well. Im looking foward to coming back for the half.
