Swim
Comments: Started out nice and calm. Difficult to navigate when looking into low rising sun. Never got into a rhythm. I will be happy one day when the wave behind me doesn't catch up to me. What would you do differently?: More practice. Transition 1
Comments: Better than last week. What would you do differently?: Practice Bike
Comments: Toughest bike portion that I have ever done. 1200 foot climb in the first three miles. From transition to Donner Pass. From Donner Pass it was mostly downhill to the turnaround. Then it was back up to Donner Pass. The descent was awesome. I was tired and ready to get off the bike, so I was a little more aggressive. Fun stuff. The initial climb wasted me. I felt like I was tired for the rest of the bike ride. Very few flat portions to stay in the aero position. Net pass was 31. What would you do differently?: Practice more hills. Transition 2
Comments: Nice Run
Comments: Felt pretty good for the first three miles. I think the mile markers were off and it messed with my effort. I wasn't wearing a HRM, so I was using pace. First mile was 8.30, second was 7.30, third was over 9 and fourth was over 10. I can maybe understand a 9, but there was no way I threw down a 10 min mile - even on the hills. Net pass was 35. What would you do differently?: Start using my HRM again - to adjust my pace. Post race
Warm down: Jumped into Donner Lake - awesome cool down. Massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Great race. Would have liked at least one more aid station on the run - maybe around the first mile. Timing results were messed up. None of my splits were correct, no T times and no bike or run totals.
