Overall Rank = 391/408
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 53/56
Pre-race routine:

My sister and I did this race together. Her second race ever, and her first real timed race.

This was a bit of a train wreck due to a flat tire on my bike. There was a decent amount of time spent waiting in the Gear West line, but all systems were go (so I thought) by race time. We got our spots set up and just waited for our turn.
Event warmup:

Some spashing around in the water. Not much.
Swim
  • 09m 20s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Choppy swim! This was rather tough on the way out. Not bad on the way back though. Perfect water temp!
What would you do differently?:

Certainly be more aggressive at the start, but that was not my job today. :)
Transition 1
  • 08m 43s
Comments:

This was all good and well, jogged to my bike, changed as needed and waited for the sister.
Bike
  • 33m 46s
  • 9 miles
  • 15.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad, all things considered. First, I have barely ridden my bike this summer. Second, I was on my old hybrid that my butt hadn't even sat on in about five years until this morning. (My sister was using my tri bike.) Third, the front tire was under inflated due to having the wrong size tube (see: train wreck in pre-race routine). Fourth, the big chain ring apparently has an issue. Don't know what it is, but it sure is loud. Spent most of the race in the middle chain ring. (This bike has three.)
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps take a test spin on a bike that has been out of use for years... maybe a tune up perhaps? :)
Transition 2
  • 04m 29s
Comments:

Cruised in to t2 and waited a bit for my sister. She wasn't far behind me on the bike, but she has an ankle brace that takes a bit of time to put on in t2, so it took a while.
Run
  • 39m 38s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 15m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

We walked the lion's share of this. A few spurts of running here and there, but not much. That was fine. My sister's ankle was really hurting her, so we did not push it.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing, really, as usual. Just loaded up out stuff and brought it to the car while waiting for awards to start.

Event comments:

Love this race! Of course we were slow as molasses, but that's ok! We had a great time and my sister now has two races under her belt! She has come a long way already and I am super proud of her! :)

So nice as always to see the BT crew after as well - Ben, Joe, Bryan, and Kelly. Small crowd this year due to the conflicting HIMs, but still fun. Sadly, none of us won any of the goodies at the give away. Boo hoo.
