Run
Comments: Held it at a heart rate in the low 150's- about 80% max. That felt solid, yet sustainable. Turned out that it was. Legs felt a bit heavy during the 1st couple miles, and I thought I had gone out too fast, but once I settled into the pace, I felt like I could do it all day. Right under an 8min/mi. Talked to a lot of people along the way and generally had a good time. Then, when I got past 9 miles, I slowly inched the pace up and allowed my HR climb through the upper 150's. Worked out well, metered just enough for a strong finish with everything I had left. Last two miles were sub-7min, which for me is terrific. What would you do differently?: Maybe take the 1st mile just a little slower to warm up. or... do a better warm-up. Other than that, I'm happy with my pacing. However- I wonder how I would have done had I did all the early miles 10 sec faster. Post race
Warm down: Downed H2O, stretched, had a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: That's it man. that's all the speed I got. Nothing limited it. Event comments: This is a small, well run, easy, friendly event. Over 300 in the half marathon, and another 300+ in the 5K. Nothing spectacular, but it was certainly well run and organized, Steve Landau does a nice job. Oh- and we got a sharp, red, tech t-shirt, as well as a long sleeve cotton T. There was a eggs/beans/tortilla breakfast. Awards ceremony- they gave out etched beer mugs as trophies- which I like, as they're actually usable. Got one last year, but not this year. Had a small bowl of cereal, a banana and some juice. It was in the upper 30's at my place, so I put on the running tights and a few layers. When I got to the race start, it was in the low 40's. Sniffed the air, and then stripped off the tights and put on running shorts. Glad I did.
Jogging from car to stadium, and then a little around. Not much- about 1/2 mile.
