Swim
Comments: Fighting the surf to get out to the swim was challenging. I tripped on the uneven seabed a couple times. Once out and actually swimming, it went really well. Coming out through the waves really winded me, and I had to walk up to T1 What would you do differently?: Swim went perfect, but I'd like to try harder to jog up the beach. Transition 1
Comments: I'm grouping the distance from the water and up the beach to T1 into my transition time instead of how the race calculated it in with the swim time. (Because of the location of their timing mat.) Running up the beach with half the wetsuit still on was tiring. Once on the boardwalk I did a half-assed jog. The actual transision went fine. What would you do differently?: Maybe take the wetsuit off at the edge of the water, so it's easier to run up the beach. Bike
Comments: The ride was flat and pretty short. But it was windy, the roads were pitted and not closed to traffic, there were lots of turns, and my bike computer wasn't working so I had trouble maintaining a pace. Overall, the bike sucked for me. Topping it off, my stomach was very upset from a combination of the Sports Legs caps I took, and swallowing some seawater. Not having aero bars sucked too. I still maintained a 17 mph pace, which isn't bad for me, but it could have been much better. What would you do differently?: Take Sports Legs pills with food to avoid upset stomach. Get aero bars for better position. Check my bike computer better before the race. Transition 2
Comments: At the start of the race they rushed us out of the Transition area, and I forgot to take my race belt out of my tri-bag and put it with my shoes. So I had 20 seconds or so to dig out the bag and find the belt. Otherwise, T2 went very quickly and I was happy with my time. What would you do differently?: Make sure my T-area is properly and completely set up. Maybe get to the race earlier. Run
Comments: The run wasn't very good for me either. I was very hot and my HR felt way too high. I wanted to run the whole course, but had to stop and walk for 20 - 30 seconds several times. Even so, I held a decent pace (for me), and the official split numbers are better than I expected. What would you do differently?: Drink more water on the bike. Do more run training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Ate some fruit from the pitiful post race food table. What limited your ability to perform faster: heat. upset stomach. windy course. not as strong a runner as I'd like. Event comments: The race overall was poorly organized. There were no ammenities, either swag or post race. The food table was a joke, with some fruit and bottled water. No HEED (as was advertised) or anything else. Bike course was open to traffic, and cars were pretty rude. Overall experience was poor. Last updated: 2010-07-20 12:00 AM
