Pre-race routine:

I got there close to transition closing but the parking lot is so close to the event site and traffic was smooth. So no worries
Event warmup:

I stretched while waiting in the line up for the portopottie. Ate some goo
Swim
  • 16m 43s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Hated this swim. Its in a little quarry - pool and its zig zags in an M shape. As soon as I got into a rhythm we got all congested and were turning around again. It was tight and congested. Did not enjoy it at all
What would you do differently?:

Id stay in front and try and get out as fast as i can from the rest. I had trouble breathing cause of the adrenoline and had trouble breating right off the bat. Hated that cause i'm a strong swimmer. Did not like the turns either it was very tight
Transition 1
  • 07m 42s
Comments:

I did better than my time indicates - its just that there is a quite a run from the water to the transition, and i went back and forth a couple of times to find my bike. Will mark it better next time. Also it was raining hard so all my stuff was still in the back and so it took a little longer to get my gear on.
What would you do differently?:

nothing in terms of getting ready - but i'd keep my bike marked cause i missed it...and i forgot to reset my h/r monitor and timer. So i had no idea how far i went or what my time was. and didnt wanna figet with it
Bike
  • 48m 2s
  • 14.29 miles
  • 17.85 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a great ride - i really enjoyed going fast - i expected a better time tho - oh well. I followed many speedsters and enjoyed the down hills a lot. It rained and was wet so i had to be a little careful
What would you do differently?:

i dont think i pushed myself hard enough...i could have had a better time. I will work harder on my bike training.
Transition 2
  • 03m 51s
Comments:

did well with this transition, ate some gel - and it went smoothly
Run
  • 33m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The switch from bike to run was really hard, my legs felt horrible, i didnt think i'd be able to finish. but after about 3 minutes they sprang in and off i went. It was hard to get going but then i felt so strong and ran fast. The other competitors are so supportive - what a great race
What would you do differently?:

I need more brick training. i didnt like the change. But i obviously could finish strong. The slow pace rate is mainly cause i was running with heavy legs.
Post race
Warm down:

It rained like hell after that. I ate a few bananas, and then headed home. i stretched out at home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

rain and not enough training

Event comments:

Other than the congested and zig zag swim course, i really enjoyed this race - it was so well organized and supportive and the bike and run course was amazing. The logistics, parking and layout was beautiful. I would highly recommend it for any women's first tri.
