Swim
Comments: I should have worn the wetsuit. It was colder and longer than I expected and it took me a few minutes to get used to the small chops in the water. I felt like I was going slow, but I'll take 5th of 19 in my group! What would you do differently?: Wear wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Managed to find my transition area quickly, and change into biking shoes fairly fast. Decided to go with socks for the biking, so that took a few extra seconds. Grabbed a quick energy gel and ran out of the area. I knew clipping into the pedals with the bike shoes would be a little tricky, since I had just learned how a week prior to the race. I pulled off to the side and clipped in. Started a little wobbly, almost ran into a guy.....but then took off and never looked back. Bike
Comments: Ok....this is what I don't understand. This is my third triathlon. My first triathlon I averaged 16 mph. The second one I averaged 17 mph, and this one I averaged 18 mph. So I am getting better, but the bike leg is still my worst area. I seriously thought during the race that I was doing great....but then I went back to 14/19 in my age group??? What would you do differently?: not sure....need to train on the bike this winter, that's for sure! Transition 2
Comments: Pretty nice transition overall. Grabbed a quick last drink, and off to the run! Run
Comments: Throughout the run, I thought it was a 3.1 mile course, and so I just couldn't unerstand why it seemed so long.... Found out later it was actually almost 1/2 mile longer than that. So glad I had been focusing on running during training. The speed workouts, which I hate, helped a lot. There was a woman on my tail the whole time.....I literally could hear her breathing down my neck. She would pass me from time to time, but I was able to beat her in the final stretch. I had a great kick, thanks to the speed workout. Post race
Warm down: Drank water and had some fruit. Walked around and cooled off. Event comments: Very nice race! Last updated: 2010-07-20 12:00 AM

Got up around 4am, showered and headed towards Erie. Stopped in town for bagel and diet coke. Was all alone....felt funny, but listened to my favorite music as loud as I wanted too! Got to the race site around 7:00 am. Got my race number, timing chip, and body markings. Music at the transition area was great and the weather was wonderful! Looked like a great race day!
Jogged around a bit, set up transition area, then kept checking and rechecking it.....who does that? Did some stretching.....and nervously waited for my wave to be called to the water.
