Pre-race routine:

woke up early and loaded up the truck. Ate a banana before leaving. on the one and a half hour ride i drank a big endurance fuel.
Event warmup:

relaxed before the race to avoid getting too sweaty before putting on my wet suit.
Swim
  • 44m 49s
  • 1584 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to spend less time floating and swim more consistently. Need to simply build my overall swim endurance.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more open water swims and get comfortable swimming the mile with no wet suit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
What would you do differently?:

consume more calories so i am not cramping on the course. practice more hills when training.
Bike
  • 1h 51m 1s
  • 24.4 miles
  • 13.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs felt like they were close to cramping as i took off my wet suit. the first ten minutes on the bike were rough. I settled in after a few minutes then came to the 3/4 mile uphill climb. I was real slow going up since my legs were shaky from the swim. made it through the first lap ok then did great for the next five miles or so of flats then fell apart on the second climb. made it to the top but very slowly and cramped all over at the top. spent at least 20 min stretching and trying to loosen up. eventually got back on and finished the bike. Terrible since i consider the bike to be my strength.
What would you do differently?:

consume more calories so i am not cramping on the course. practice more hills when training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

actually went very smooth except i couldn't find my stuff. once i did i was in and out.
What would you do differently?:

get an orange bag so it stands out!
Run
  • 1h 35m 11s
  • 6 miles
  • 15m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

legs began to cramp at the start of the run and continued throughout. I was forced to walk run the entire 6.2. i had as much Gatorade and water as i could stomach trying to play catchup enough to run but my legs were not having it. It was just not my day!
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my lags are god to go getting off the bike, Hydrate and take in more calories!!!!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough hydration and calories

Event comments:

Ill be back for another go next year!!!!
