![]() Swim
Comments: Swim was the second leg following the bike. I made a last minute decision to put on the wetsuit after recommendations from the race organizers to wear one to avoid cramping in the cold water after biking. As soon as I got in I was glad I wore the suit b/c I think I had a good amount of air trapped in my legs because they were really, really buoyant. Steady swim. Swim time includes the loooong run from TA, down to the normal water exit to the finish pier (the one on the right) then across the waterfront to the normal start pier and out to the end of the pier. Volunteer at the end of the pier took the time to inform everyone to aim left since there was a current pulling people right. This swim really seems to have caused the most problems with people. Almost everyone I talked to (admittedly, only about 5 or 6 people) had a cramping problem on the swim. The way the swim was laid out, though, meat that you could stand up if you got in trouble at least half of the course. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Took it east putting on the wetsuit to avoid cramps. Volunteer was available to help me zip up. ![]() Bike
Comments: Goal was to sit at 230W, a pace I felt I could maintain for both Olympic distance races without impacting the Sunday race. Got hung up behind people a few times and didn't push as hard. NP 213. Windier race this afternoon so I'm not exactly sure how I managed to ride easier with more wind and only end up a few seconds slower. Effective pacing with the wind, I guess. ![]() Transition 2
![]() Run
Comments: Just repeat the morning performance. People seemed to start to have some difficulty on this run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Hop in the lake for 10 or 15 minutes & drink the Hammer Recoverite they included in our race bag. Event comments: So far everything was going exactly as planned. I was a little worried that my hamstrings were a touch sore, but it really wasn't bad. I was totally stoked to race the half in the AM. Last updated: 2010-07-23 12:00 AM
