Swim
Comments: This was a really tough swim for me. There was a lot of kicking, and pulling, and hitting. There were many times I felt like I was getting into a groove, but then I would get hit or kicked or someone would grab my foot and completely throw me off. The swim course was very well marked though. There were huge orange buoys every 100 meters that were labeled by distance, it was literally impossible to get lost. It also made it easy to sight. I felt like I was in the water forever, but I never gave up. I kept on going and I finished. I’m really proud of myself. What would you do differently?: Thinking about taking swim lessons to improve speed and technique. Transition 1
Comments: There was a bit of a run from the swim exit to the transition area. It felt good to be out of the water and I started sprinting, but then realized I needed to lower my heart rate. I took it easy, took a little bathroom break (but didn't wait in line for the port-a-potty...) and ran out. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Bike
Comments: My bike was AWESOME!! I'm always a lot more comfortable on the bike. I was a little worried because the roads had been slick from the rain, so I knew I would have to take more precaution. However, I was still able to push the pace. It was a pretty fast bike course. Not as flat at everyone said it was. No major hills, but a couple of inclines. Every 5 minutes I would look over and see someone changing a flat, or walking their bike back. Not sure what happened, but that made me a little nervous. Still, I pushed on. At mile 16 I thought I had a flat tire, so I pulled over to check my tire…and it was completely fine. That was just all in my head I guess… So I pushed on even harder. I’m very happy with my bike split. What would you do differently?: Train more to get faster. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was good. I walked a little bit to slow down my heart rate. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Run
Comments: Overall I’m pretty happy with my run, it could have definitely been better. I was started having GI problems on the run. I think I definitely drank too much. I felt nauseous and bloated at the start of the run. So I took it very easy. Then around mile 2 I started getting a side stitch, which made me think I didn’t drink enough. I didn’t know what was going on. The run started to get boring from mile 3 to 6. There was pretty much no one there, and no scenery. After running the mile 6, you started to see the finish line. That’s when I picked it up and sprinted to the finish line. FINISHED!! It was so awesome to finish. I felt amazing. I had finished my first Olympic distance triathlon. With a smile on my face. What would you do differently?: Do more bricks in training. Post race
Event comments: This was an awesome race on a fun course. It was my first Oly and i'm happy with my performance. I'm now excited to start training for next season, which may include a HIM Last updated: 2010-07-25 12:00 AM

I woke up at 4:30 am, got dressed, double checked that I had all my gear packed and set out for the shuttle bus. I ate breakfast on the shuttle. The shuttles were PACKED. It began raining cats and dogs. Not a good start to the day. I get to the transition area, not really knowing what to do, because I'm shivering and freezing, and don't want to take out my gear because it’d get soaked in 2 seconds. The only thing I could do to keep warm was put on my wetsuit. The race director decides to postpone the race 20 mins because of the weather. So I start to set up my transition area and walk over to the swim corrals.
Didn't really have time to warm up because of the weather, but having my wetsuit on literally warmed me up.
