Swim
Comments: They started a big group of men off first- NOt sure how many AG's made up the wave, but it was filled with older and young guys. I seeded myself in the 2nd row and to the left a little bit. I haven't been swimming that much lately, so I knew I would want to draft of the faster swimmers. Never really got to draft much as it was clear water the whole way for the most part. What would you do differently?: not much. Transition 1
Comments: unsure of t1 time as results haven't been posted. My transitions are usually pretty quick- this one felt reasonably fast. I just put my shoes, helmet, then sunglasses on and took off. Bike
Comments: I have not been riding too much these days (once a week), so I didn't redline too much b/c I was scared of blowing my legs out. I nearly busted my arse trying to clip into my cleats. My right foot slipped and I caught myself before disaster/embarrassment struck, but I bent my seat sideways in the process. I was able to straighten it out while I was riding. I got passed by 2 people (1 was in my age group, so I did my best to keep him in my site. so I could start the run near him.) I felt like my lungs were about to explode on some of the hills near the beginning as I hadn't caught my breath from the swim and hill leaving T1 What would you do differently?: not much Transition 2
Run
Comments: Run felt great right away for some reason- which I didn't expect. It wasn't too hot and the shade during the 1st half was nice. I quickly caught up with the guy in my age group that finished the bike in front of me and started talking to him. I tried to pull him with me to the top of the hill, but he couldn't go with me. I was happy to not have to race him the whole way. Towards the end, I realized there was no way I was catching the guy in front of me- and there was no one in site behind me which was nice. I didn't have to kill myself and took it relatively easy to the finish in the last mile. Post race
Warm down: No warmdown- I was worn out What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of consistant training, long run the morning before and rafting down the chattahoochee the afternoon before (5 1/2 hours of sun and beer) Event comments: This race, as with all of Ga Multisport races, is a quality event. Everything was well organized- the parking, transition set up, course markings, etc.... It's a race that makes for a weekned up in the mtn's. I love these short- get-away races. Awards were a paper certificate and pint glasses with a free beer coupon from the local Blue Ridge Brewery. (women got a necklace in place of the beer I think) The top 3 OA got an All3sports gift cert as well. There was a HUGE spread of food from a local restaurant, as well as fried pies from the local orchard, and other sponsor tents with samples. Last updated: 2010-07-26 12:00 AM

Woke up 2 hours before race and ate a cliff bar, banana, sipped on a water bottle of cytomax/carbopro mix. My buddy Chris and I left the cabin around 5:30 to drive to the marina where the race takes place (on lake Blue Ridge) - great cabin rentals in mineral Bluff- about 9 miles away.
I just swam to the first bouy and back for a short warmup
