Swim
Comments: Good swim overall. Went out hard and passed several people. Started the watch after 3 strokes. Caught feet at about 100 and followed them to the second turn. Nice, got dropped on the last leg by a lot, not sure how it happened still. Swam till I hit bottom with my hand. Out of the water and onto dry ground, I decided to pick up the pace into T1, good call saved me a place in the overall standings. Much better jog than at Spanish. What would you do differently?: Start the watch when I start and go! Transition 1
Comments: Entered T1 and made a B-line to the bike. Rack was 5 bikes in from the exit. Glasses, helmet, bike and go. T1 overall 12th Males 7th Age group 1st What would you do differently?: Maybe have the glasses taped to the bars and put them on on the roll. Bike
Comments: My wheels Crossed mount line went a few feet and stopped to mount. Rubberbands didn't break so I reached down. Solw getting up to speed but pretty good getting feet into shoes and getting closed up. Passed about 6 but 6-8 fast cyclists caught me mostly on hills. I caught 2 of them again on the way back in. Drank 2/3 bottle acceleraid and 1/2 bottle water on bike. My hill skill is lacking. Need wheels and more training.... Down hill I saw 45.9MPH and felt stable, cant give it all back on the uphill. What would you do differently?: More hill training, thought I was getting better maybe it was really that big! Use the aero bottle for the water even at a sprint. Transition 2
Comments: Good dismount at the line, 5 steps into T2 and at the rack 3 steps later. Bike up quickly, helmet off sock shoe, sock shoe, then I put on my race belt, what was I thinking, picked up bottle (acceleraid) and out the back door. Maybe the fastest T2 I've ever had. T2 overall 29th Males 20th Age group 4th What would you do differently?: Put the race belt on, on the run! Run
Comments: Hit the line and moved out. Realized I was pushing the pace at the first water table and started getting into the 7:20-30 pace. Maintained it overall. Up hill on the way out pace got as slow as 9:30 momentarily. Mostly 8:20-30 on the up hills. Noticed blister on toe around 2 mi point. Dumped my empty bottle at the water stop on the way back. Kept pressing the down hill portions with Bill in the back on my mind. Passed him with about a 2 min advantage at the turn, but wasn't sure how far back he was (started 10 waves back). Finished well feeling good. What would you do differently?: Get the pace down earlier and hold on! Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit then got David on the bike for a cool down run (bike ride for him) then a dip in the lake to cool off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training has been goo (volume) but haphazard. No real focused goals for workouts. The opposite of what I wanted this year. Need to focus for teh next 6 weeks and capatalize on the remaining time. Also need to drop the last 5 lbs!!!! Event comments: Wind faught the crew settig up bouys. Race started a good 20-30 min late. Dificulty with the timing system but it wasa the first time trying a new software application, corrected but it delayed awards. RRP puts on a good mom and pop type race! Woke at 430 warmed up the coffee while eating 2+/- cups apple sauce with 1.5 scoops protine, 1/2 powerbar, drank 1 cup coffee and ensure 1/2 bottle water on drive up. Out the door at 5:15. On site with David at 5:55 and into transition before 6:15. Plenty of time to setup, download, talk and have fun.
1/2 powerbar and 1 gel 30 and 15 in prior to start. Swam about a 200 to get the arms working and view the exit from the lake. Was thursty at start time....
