Swim
Comments: Good swim, I knew I would finish in under 9 minutes so I could push the pace the entire swim, and that is exctly what I did. Ran hard into the water at the gun and began to sprint the 1st 100 yards. Seemed to take the lead in my wave, but I was soon overcome by faster swimmers. What would you do differently?: Not Much Transition 1
Comments: For me, this tri was about getting off to a fast start and make my transitions as simple and fast as possible. I am very very pleased with my transitions. What would you do differently?: Nothing! I simplified my transition area to the bare minimum and it paid off. No more overthinking transitions. Watching the ITU races the past few weeks really helped! those guys are quick and to the point with their transitions! Bike
Comments: I felt like I destroyed the bike course. I was never passed and wound up passing 3-4 men in my AG in the beginning and never saw another. This is where thoughts of podium entered my head. After seeing the results I knew I came into T2 with the lead in my AG. I was the 1st bike back in T2 in my area, which I'm pretty sure was grouped by AG. Both of my bottles ejected 3/4ths of the way through the bike. This was my ony hydration for the race and I was pissed. There was no way I ws goig to stop for them, so I kept on going! (after the race I drove by the spot where my bottles ejected and they were still there. I grabbed them) What would you do differently?: Garmin had my pace at 21.4 mph, I know I could have pushed a bit harder, but I was trying to calm my HR during the second loop and I had a pretty good feeling I was leading my group, so I reserved myself a little. Transition 2
Comments: No socks for this 5K run. Transition was super simple, shoes on, visor on, gel in hand, out! Great transition for me! What would you do differently?: Nothing, simpler is better! Run
Comments: Run of my life! I felt great and was holding a pace below a 7:00 mile! I was able to hold this pace throught the entire run. During the last mile I got passed by 2 men in my AG, I tried my best to keep up, but these guys must have been running low 6's, too fast! I tried to keep up the best I could but it was not happening. I was sure I just saw my podium opportunity just go by me. I turned it up as much as I could through the finish. What would you do differently?: I dont't know, I am really starting to realize to be competitive in this sport, your run has to be top notch! I need to learn how to run faster loger. I need to be able to run low 6's over a 5K, low 7's over a 10K or greater. Something to work on next year. Post race
Warm down: Hung out, tried to find something to drink, they only had the powerbar new ironman drink which is terribe and you had to go looking for it, no where near the finish line. I spoke to the RD's wife after the race and told her they need to have wter at the finsh line, it is imperitave! Hung out with Matt and waited for my brother and his wife to finish. Waited for the preliminary results to be posted to see if I had podium'd, prelim results had me at 4th in AG, so I left bummed out, didn't wait for the awards ceremony. Only after the official results were posted later that evening did I realize I placed 2nd in AG. What limited your ability to perform faster: I coud probably learn to swim faster. HR on the Bike? Event comments: All in all, this was by far the best race of my short triathlon career. I cut 14 minutes off my time from this race last year. This race represents a PR for a sprint as well as a PR in a 5K. The only thing I could do to get better next year is train hard and get faster in all 3 diciplines. As for the RD's and the race, no water at the finish was a major bummer and no-no in my book. Need to have water at the finish. Only 1 aid station on the whole course, even though you ran by it twice, should have been more, there was more last year. Transition area was very cramped, need to space it out much more. Ovearll though a great local race, super close to home, great course and lots of friends this year. I know this is only the 2nd year for it and the RD's are learning. I will definitly race again next year. Last updated: 2010-07-26 12:00 AM

4:45 wake up, peanut butter, honey and banana on whole wheat, coffee. Picked up Ian at 5:40 or so and headed to the race site, only 5 min away.
Drank some water, took a leak and drank a Gatorade G1 Prime drink prior to heading off to the beach and pre-race meeting.
.75 mile run with race pace bursts, 1st time running without socks, made the deision to go ahead and race without socks for a faster transition. Swam maybe 200 yards.
