Age Group Rank = 7/40
Pre-race routine:

Setup transition, keep hydrated, visit washroom, relax.
Event warmup:

Jog for about 5 minutes with some pick ups, swim 100m.
Swim
  • 14m 33s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I placed myself poorly at the start and got stuck with a group that was just slightly slower than me. By the time I made it to the front of that pack, the faster swimmers were too far ahead to catch up. Couldn't find any drafting opportunities for the rest of swim.
What would you do differently?:

Place better at start and try to stay with a group that I can draft off
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Good T1, the run up the steep hill into transition was harder than I remember it last year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 47m 3s
  • 25 kms
  • 31.88 km/hr
Comments:

The 'beast of the east' as the organizers call it, is a pretty tough climb, but what really wrecked havoc on people's times was the winds once on top of the escarpment.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I wonder how much aerobars could help in windy conditions.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Had some problems racking the bike back up. It must have been the lack of oxygen to my brain :).
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to rack a bike without dropping it :).
Run
  • 28m 30s
  • 7 kms
  • 04m 04s  min/km
Comments:

Really happy with the run. I let my legs come around and then pushed the pace. I passed alot of people in the second half of the run. Really happy with the run effort.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, drink water, eat some food. The water in the lake seemed really cold in the morning (although they claimed 71F), so I had no intention of going for a swim post race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness, need to train more if I want faster times.

Event comments:

Good race. The course is tougher than it looks on paper (especially the bike portion).
