Age Group Rank = 2/5
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:10 so I can walk the dog before heading out. English muffin with peanut butter and banana for breakfast. A few sips of diet coke. Head out at 5:15
Event warmup:

Got a little swim warm up done, but since the olympic went off before the sprint, we had to get out of the water pretty early and any warmup was pretty much negated by the wait.
Swim
  • 10m 3s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I don't know why, but I could not get my heartrate down the entire swim. As a result, I could not get into a groove. Got stuck in the middle of the pack and ran into the usual people crossing in front of you, switching to breaststroke (even got kicked in the temple!) and one woman who turned onto her back in front of me and started just sort of floating.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

My transition time is really bad, but I have a good excuse. Since I am on call, I had to have my phone with me (took the chance no one would call from time transition area closed until I was done with the swim), so when I got to the bike I had to take the phone out of my spibelt and out of the plastic bag I wrapped it in to check to see if anyone called; then I had to try to get it back in the bag and into belt and belt on me. For some reason I couldn't get it back in the bag and wasted even more time fiddling around with it.
What would you do differently?:

Have a better plan for the phone!
Bike
  • 37m 46s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike, causeway crossings were stronger than a month ago.
What would you do differently?:

just need more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

good have been faster, but not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Get my garmin on faster.
Run
  • 26m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

There was absolutley no air moving on this run and it was HOT and HUMID. I think this was the hottest I've been on a run and that is saying something. Poured a lot of water on my head in an effort to keep a little cooler.
What would you do differently?:

not run in August!
Post race
Warm down:

just walking around the venue drinking gatorade type drink and water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My poor swimming and being on call.

Event comments:

This was a nicely run race, lots of water on the course, great volunteers, good eats afterwards. All finishers got a medal and I got a nice plaque for finishing 2d in my AG.
