Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:45 to be on the road to Ellacoya by 4 am. Was worried about parking because we wanted to be close enough for my jockstraps, Mom and Grandma, to sit in the car out of the rain. Drank a Stonyfield Farm Mixed Berry Smoothie and ate a honey wheat english muffin. Set up my 13 gallon transition/trash bags that worked so well at Mooseman about 6:15 then got the flotation device on in the back of Grandma's Torrent.
Event warmup:

Stood around in the water talking to other racers including Joel and Molly Zahr waiting for the start that got delayed 40 minutes.
Swim
  • 41m 16s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the ROUGHEST freshwater swim I've done in 10 years of periodic triathlon racing. It's only been topped by two ocean swims- St A's this year and West Kennebunk in Aug 05. That being said it went as well as could be expected considering how haphazard my swim training has been.
What would you do differently?:

Actually consistently swim 3 times a week rather what I've done since the third week of June.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

Ran the length of transition again as I was racked at the opposite end from the swim entrance but down by where we actually came out of the water. Opened up the 13 gallon T1 bag and put on glasses, helmet, and race belt since the ref had told us at the meeting that we had to wear it on the bike too. Dried the feet a little bit, put socks and shoes on and away I went.
What would you do differently?:

nothing- pretty quick for everything I did
Bike
  • 2h 58m 11s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride for the conditions. Wet and wind didn't really bother me too much, it's just a pretty hilly course.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and eat more- 10 oz of water, 18-20 oz of Gatorade and 1 CarbBoom aren't quite adequate if you want to do anything off the bike
Transition 2
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

It had started raining again during the bike so I snagged the towel from the T1 bag again and dried my feet off after taking off the shoes and soppen wet socks. Grabbed the dry socks and running shoes out of the T2 bag, put my running hat on and away I went.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing- taking the time to dry my feet a little was the right thing to do
Run
  • 2h 17m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

And here is where the wheels fell off. Felt okay running, just couldn't move any faster. It was like I was stuck in First rather than Drive- putting along just fine but not very fast.
What would you do differently?:

Eat, drink more on the bike???

Post race
Warm down:

Got my medal, towel, and waterbottle. Found my jockstraps and did a quick change into dry clothes. Then went to find my Jordan's ice cream because darn it, I was going to have some. It had been too cold for me at Big Lake and Mooseman. Looked at the results, was so p'oed at myself that we left rather than waiting around for 70.3 roll down since I figured that I didn't really deserve it even if by chance it rolled down that far.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor nutrition choices on the bike???
The previous week's training or lack thereof?

Event comments:

The event starting late was partly safety due to fog on the lake and partly to allow people who procrastinated and didn't listen to the get there early directions a chance to get in.
