Swim
Comments: Decent swim for me even if the average pace appears slow. It was toward the front of the overall field, gender, and age group. 24/118 for women. Was passing guys from the wave that started 4 minutes in front of us by the second buoy(of 4) on the outbound and was completely mixed up w/ more of the red caps(most of the males) by the swim finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Put my glasses on, long sleeve shirt, helmet and shoes. 5/19; 49/118; 160/356 What would you do differently?: Probably should hustle a little more in transition if I'm going to race these shorter distances. I'm reasonably quick for long distance, not so much so for short races. Bike
Comments: gender 12/118. Was pretty tight and tough to stay out of the draft zone for much of the course. Partly it was the stronger female swim/bikers and partly the weaker swimmer/biker guys. There probably should have more than 4 minutes between the 2 waves. Anyway, it was a tough bike for distance. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder maybe. Transition 2
Comments: Apparently, I held a tea party or something. 315/356; 104/118; 18/19. Helmet off, bike shoes off, socks on, running shoes on and tied. Grabbed hat and number belt to put on while moving. What would you do differently?: Quick lace system of some kind, toughen the feet so I don't have to wear socks. Pretty much I've become used to long course transitions. Run
Comments: 50/118. Apparently the T2 tea party continued on the run. Actually this was a pretty good run for me. I didn't get passed by anyone in my age group and even managed to pass a couple of people. What would you do differently?: Learn how to run??? Post race
Warm down: Shiver, shiver some more. Take the bike back to the car and get dry clothes. Even w/ the long sleeves, being in the 50s, windy and raining, it was chilly for a wet body. Took until about 3 in the afternoon to completely warm back up. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't train to race this short Event comments: Decent food options- the chicken soup really hit the spot. Plus there were the standards of the pizza, fruit, bagels. The awards for age group places were a glass imprinted w/ the race logo and a pair of thorlo socks. It didn't matter whether you placed 1st or 3rd, you got the same thing. There were no medals for anyone. This was the second year for this race and my second year doing it. If it fits w/ my schedule, I would do it again. Last updated: 2006-02-03 12:00 AM

Did packet pickup Friday evening and talked w/ the race director. The bike course was altered due to developing a contigency plan in case Ernesto caused the swim to be cancelled. Apparently, the old bike course wouldn't have been safe for a time trial format. So the pre-race routine mostly consisted of getting up early enough to check the forecast. Since the weather system seemed to be about Cortland at 6 am, we headed to the race. The wind waited to pick up higher until we were on the bike so we were allowed to swim. Yeah!
Ate 2 Nutter Butter cookies and a Stonyfield Farms fat free French Vanilla yogurt.
