Swim
Comments: Swim was definitely shorter than 1/3 mile, but my swim times are typically middle of the pack for all other races (lakes). I think in reverse order of influence 1. the salt water greatly aided me, 2. I'm getting more accustomed to my wetsuit and 3. this particular race had a lot of novice swimmers. What would you do differently?: Practice in salt water/waves. Eventually had to breath every stroke which I've been able to overcome in lake swims. Transition 1
Comments: transition time imbedded in bike. I was very quick taking off suit and getting gear for biking on A+! What would you do differently?: Still a bit slow getting into toe cages. Once on bike took it easy for a little too long. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike ride but I think I left something on the table over the first 2 miles. Given the short distance I didn't totally kill it to the extent I wanted to. Lots of traffic to navigate though as I was in 8th swim wave and there were lots of slow bikes on course. What would you do differently?: Go out at high RPMs and steadily increase gear over first .5M Transition 2
Comments: T2 embedded in run What would you do differently?: Nothing, super quick here Run
Comments: Surprised at my overall rank for run of 112th being weakest compared to 54th in swim and 67th on bike. I guess its partially because lots of triathlon newbies coming from a running background. Definitely lost some time here though as couldn't quite get into a good 7:30 or lower cadence. Just too hot and tired. What would you do differently?: Push it just a bit more over first mile knowing that I will loosen up. I was able to kick pretty well over last 1/10 (someone passed me and I somewhat psychotically had to pass them back!) so there might have been a bit more there. No running this spring is coming back to bite me as my speed tops out shy of 7:30s Post race
Warm down: lots of water, walking and watching What limited your ability to perform faster: pre-season wasn't able to run due to achilles tendinitis Event comments: Great race, goal was under 1hr and missed by just 34 seconds. Only minor critique is they didn't post results quickly and post-race areas were a bit fragmented and hung out less than typical. Lots of water and food though, the site layout simply made the post-race difficult to stage. Very surprised that last year 1hr in 45-49 woulda been good for 6th/38 and this year it was 13th/47.
