Swim
Comments: Just found out I was 1st in my AG in the swim. Pretty cool. Didn't know because I went off in the elite wave...this is where "elite" is not cool. I'm a decent swimmer, and when I go AG I can kind of get ahead of the pack. In elite, everyone's pretty good and I got stuck in the pack. Water left a green scuzz in my tri-suit. It was ripe with flora in this warm year. Nasty. What would you do differently?: Swim more. I just haven't put in the swim practice this year, but focused on sprints with swims under 1/2 mile, so it just wasn't that necessary. Transition 1
Comments: Here's where "elite" is cool...reserved spots near the bike out. I prefer not to keep my shoes on the bike, and this way I didn't have to run far in cleats. Moved pretty good through T1. It was raining and my glasses were open and up in my helmet, so already when on inside - ditched them. What would you do differently?: Nothing...went pretty smooth. Bike
Comments: Felt sluggish for the first third or so. Not sure why...was it deceptively slightly uphill? I don't know. Was really in the groove in the last third. What would you do differently?: "Elite" again not good here. I think I like the bike portion of triathlons the best because you actually feel like you're racing. Passing people, getting passed occasionally. It's a constant sensation of speed. In the first elite wave, I passed exactly no one and got passed 3-4 times. Kind of a lonely way to race. Transition 2
Comments: Smooth T2. Excellent moving dismount and slid into running shoes well. What would you do differently?: Know The Course! I thought I was near transition so got out of my shoes early....only to find I had almost a half mile to go. Don't think it cost me much, but felt a little stupid. Run
Comments: Good run for me. Always wish I was faster. What would you do differently?: Gotta work on the psychology / self talk at this point. It always crosses my mind in the first mile, "Why do I do this stupid stuff?" I need to figure out how to embrace the run portion of the race more. Post race
Warm down: Walked it off, and grabbed some post-race refreshments. What limited your ability to perform faster: Currently training for and end of August half marathon. Didn't have my usual focus on this specific race for the last two weeks. Bike less and swim non-existent. Still a decent race and third of the year for me. Event comments: This was a well-run race. Organized well. "Announcer guy" added some fun. Good post race food...hot dogs on top of the usual gatorade and bananas. Would've been even better without the rain. Last updated: 2010-07-29 12:00 AM

Up 3h early as usual. Peanut butter toast and fruit - no dairy - as usual. Wanted to drive the bike course beforehand, but a required "facilities stop" prevented this.
A few minutes of each discipline, plus some stretching.
