Run
Comments: Took off a little quicker so I wouldn't be left at the back of the pack trying to catch up all day. First 1km or so was good, then started to slow to a comfortable pace but was passed by several others (including a few oldies!!) Return leg was fine... comfortable... not too bad. Again, was passed by a few people, but overall I was happy with the run. What would you do differently?: Not too much... maybe concentrate on not slowing down. I had good energy in bike leg, so pushing the first run could be beneficial! Transition 1
Comments: Pretty happy with the first transition. Picked up a couple of spots as others were a little slower than me. What would you do differently?: I kept my socks on again, which I am still unsure if is the best option? It does save a little time in the 2nd transition and is more comfortable for bike leg, so ????? Bike
Comments: It is somewhat disheartening when the elite guys (and gals) pass you at nearly twice your pace, however I didn't dwell on them and kept to my own pace. I still think I am a little slow, however I felt better than the first Duathlon one month ago. What would you do differently?: Aerobars, may help but something that I think I can wait on for a while! New wheels would probably help too, but at the moment, too expensive and I'm not too hung up on beating everyone, so all good. Again, could probably take off socks, but ???? I think extra leg strength will definitely help with more speed! Transition 2
Comments: Legs felt a lot better than last race when getting off bike. Was this due to shorter bike leg or better fitness?? I didn't waste much time in transition so overall felt pretty good! What would you do differently?: Elastic laces might be beneficial to shave off a few seconds. If I was to be putting on socks at this point, I would need the time saved with elastic laces. Probably should have taken a mouthful of water during this transition... need to have another bottle available for this at transition. Run
Comments: Obviously slower than the first run, but at turn around felt good and was able to kick-off to try to catch "the guy in white long sleeve top" who was about 300m in-front of me. By the finish I had gained maybe 100m on him so felt like I had achieved a good result! 2nd Run was A LOT easier than first Duathlon and finished strong(ish) What would you do differently?: Maybe just to push a little harder right out of transition? Although this is difficult due to jelly-legs. Post race
Warm down: Probably not enough.... brief stretching, walk around finish area chatting to others! What limited your ability to perform faster: General fitness... (especially in running) My bike... no Aerobars, tires, teardrop helmet etc. Mental ability to push even harder! Event comments: As I have only competed in 2 Duathlons, I rated this event a 4 primarily to give some wiggle room for future events! I thought this was an excellent event and the people / members were very friendly and open to chat and give advice! THANKS WSTC!! Last updated: 2010-07-29 12:00 AM

Up at around 5:30am and left Geelong at 6am. 1 hour drive to Altona so arrived plenty early.
Arrived early and once registered and received timing bracelet, I spent plenty of time (approx 35min) racking my bike and equipment, walking around, taking it all in and looking at other competitors.
I warmed up briefly (didn't want to spend too long and waste too much energy). Quick stretch and ready to race!
