Swim
Comments: Again I am not the best swimmer, not even close. I try and am a big talker until the gun goes off, then the wheels on the bus fall off and I just try and get through it. I did start in the back of the pack knowing that I would get mowed down if I started any further up. I started to swim and then mentally got freaked out due to the water. It was very dark and I am not use to that yet. Well I swam and thought I was in last place so I just kept going and going. I had my sights on one guy who was in front of me and he was getting further and further away. Close to the end of my first loop I was lapped by a couple of faster swimmers. I stuck with my make shift swimming style and just wanted to get done as fast as I could for my wife so she could rock the bike. After the first turn in the second loop I manned up and went full free style. I began to close the gap between me and the guy in front of me very quickly. I had a goal of not being last out of the water so I pounded through. I caught up to the guy in front of me and began my move to pass him. However he was as determined to not let me pass him as I was to pass him so as I moved to the left he did, as I went right he did and he. It was hard to pass him. I slowed a little and took a look and then made my move strong and hard a little wide but to the left. I passed him and then just continued to move forward to get out of the swim. I was very happy. This was the first time I was not last out of the water. The run to transition was a little long but nothing I have not done before. This time I did get small rocks stuck in the bottom of my foot that had to be cut out later that night. What would you do differently?: Just swim better Transition 1
Comments: Easy to do T1 when all you have to do is high five a person and give them the chip. What would you do differently?: not a thing Bike
Comments: The bike is 4 loops. My wife said it was an ok ride. She liked it other than it was 4 loops. She said it challenged her on corners and a couple up hills but nothing huge. I could see where it might be a tough ride for some people. There were a lot of turns and then you had to do the loop 4 times. That can be hard on a person if they want to stay on rhythm on the bike. I cheered her on as she rode by and then went to warm back up so I could run. What would you do differently?: She siad just get better at her ride. Transition 2
Comments: Again the team T2 is great. A quick smooch and grab the chip and off I went on the run. Run
Comments: The run was two loops and I was determined to run hard. Part of the run is out on the streets and a little in the park so it was a run race. I ran as hard as I could but with the OLY and Sprint folks on the course it is hard to tell where you are at in the race. I ran hard and felt good. I was in a spot where I could have ran real hard and picked up the pace and passed one more person. I did not do it. It was a woman who had a lot of people cheering for her and she was trying so hard that I did not want to be the guy who darted past her like some macho jerk. I closed in on her in the last1/4 mile and left enough room for her to enjoy the finish line on her own. You have to admit it’s a cool feeling when you cross the line. I did find out it was her first race, so letting her do that was a good thing. What would you do differently?: not much Post race
Warm down: Talked with girl at finish line to get medal for my wife. She was very nice and handed me one. We then milled around a little and asked some questions on if teams would get medals. We found out they would so we hung out had some snacks and cheered on the kids. We ended up getting place in the teams. We were third place. We were both surprised and very happy. It was the first time we had placed in a race so we were proud of ourselves. We figured there were only 3 teams and that’s why we got third, but we did not care it was a good boost to our esteem. What limited your ability to perform faster: my swim. Event comments: good race. Tri Freaks put on a nice event. They learned very fast aftr Ocean Shores and put on a real good race this time out. This was the first time me and my wife have done a team event so the pre race and event warm up was a little different. We arrived early and found a good spot on the rack. Parking was easy. They had some spots right in the park and also some over on a ball field, but it all seemed organized enough to not be a hassle. My wife is short so the biggest part was trying to rack her bike. When we put it on the rack it could not touch the ground and there were to many bikes set already so we could not adjust the rack so we were stuck with her bike hanging. Not a bad thing but just did not want to get in the way of the other racers.
We then tried to figure out how to be a team and transition. We did not know if there was a special spot or if there was any rules to follow. Well no one could help us so we just went on as if it was just a normal race.
get into wet suit and swam a little. Half way through my swim my wife began to get ready for her bike.
