Overall Rank = 224/304
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 27/34
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5am, ate a power bar (over a span of about 45 minutes) and drank a bottle of water. Set up on the wrong rack and then relocated.
Event warmup:

Swam from the course exit (right by the 'No Swimming' sign - gotta love that) to the first buoy and back.
Swim
  • 13m 28s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good at keeping up with the pack. Good mental status.
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed myself more. Still need practice sighting smoothly. I think I'm still zig-zagging too much.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

I dawdled here to give myself the chance to catch my breath (lessons learned from last time). I didn't need it, though, so I ended up wasting probably a whole minute. I rode in running shoes, so time spent here was made up at T2
What would you do differently?:

Run to the bike and just speed up the whole process.
Bike
  • 46m 10s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 16.15 mile/hr
Comments:

As good as I felt coming out of the ride, I'm surprised the numbers aren't better. The bridge was tough, but I felt like I handled it well. It didn't kill my legs and I had a good pace afterwards.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I felt pretty good.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Rode with running shoes, so this is where I made up time from T1
Run
  • 31m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I kept a great pace (for me) here, coming in just over 10 minutes a mile. I'm just not that fast yet.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on improving my pace. This was my weakest leg (but again, good for where I am).
Post race
Warm down:

Water, water, pizza, fruit, and water. Skip the pizza next time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Worry that I'll run out of energy. I need to go all out next time. I need to find out how to improve swim pace, and just work on my running pace.

Event comments:

Heard some cautionary comments coming into the event, but it was a great course and well run from my perspective. I'll be doing it again.

Course: Out across a flat bridge, through a residential neighborhood then back. Loved the course because it was NOT a loop. For me, it was easier mentally to know exactly how much I had left because I'd already run it.
