Swim
  • 09m 47s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swim breaststroke but I'm pretty fast at it. Felt very good throughout. Passed one person. Had one person block me, it probably only cost me about 20 seconds. Having people going 2 directions in 1 lane means you can only pass at the wall -- for a 50m pool, this can be a problem.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Long run to T1. Fumbled a bit getting my shirt on.
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 48m 56s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.71 mile/hr
Comments:

I ride a hybrid without bike shoes. There's a wicked hill on the course that you do twice. After the hill it is a long down hill. It is tough to be in top gear, pedaling hard on the down hill and have racing bikes pass you and people aren't even pedaling! But since I'm doing this for fitness, I guess I'm okay with that...
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Good T2 -- taking off bike gloves cost a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 27m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I just wanted to enjoy the run so I tried to stay really relaxed and have a slow pace. Was surprised when I kept passing people because I felt like I was just chugging along. Almost missed the turnaround, not well marked and no volunteer present.
Post race
Warm down:

Popsicle

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hybrid bike.

Event comments:

Race was a lot of fun. The volunteers are wonderfully enthusiastic. The popsicle at the end was great. Lot's of newbies made it a great environment. The race started about 15-20 minutes late. The swim should be changed to have only one direction in each lane. A volunteer should be posted at the turnaround. I was very pleased with my time, although I wonder how much better I'd be on a race bike.
