Pre-race routine:

Wake up eat breakfast on the way to the race. Ate pop tarts and two granola bars plus a cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Road bike for about 5 minutes. Ran about 3/4 of a mile. Stretched.
Run
  • 11m 13s
  • 2 miles
  • 05m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Not much to say. Stayed in the top 3 with the 3 of us hitting t1 at the same time. Timing and scoring was messed up...I had an 11:29 (with all 3 of us entering t1 together) but official race timing had 11:13. Anyway very good first run. It felt great and relaxed.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have pushed the pace alittle bit and still had plenty left for the rest of the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

I have speedplays and had a horrible time clipping in. Not sure what happened!
Bike
  • 30m 34s
  • 11.6 miles
  • 22.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Not too bad. The course was short due to contruction so it was well short of 20K...11.6 miles according to my computer. However they figured the average base on a true 20K so the results show faster averages. Very rough roads. I'm not sure if I'll do this race again due to the rail road crossings and rough roads.
What would you do differently?:

I've definitly biked better this year but I probably need to spend more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Run
  • 19m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Not too bad. I just missed 2nd overall. Every time I surged the guy in front of me was able to respond. I should have been able to push a little harder but just didn't quite get there. Overall not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder. I should have been able to run up to 2nd place.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much. A little stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to get faster on the bike without sacrificing any run speed. I'm losing too much ground to some of the other guys on the bike.

Event comments:

Well, the race venue itself is a great concept. The bike course is marginal at best. Odd bike in bike out routes coupled with the two rail road crossings and rough roads make this race a a 2nd tier race for next year...I'll have to think about it.
