Comments: Cold. Really freakin' cold. 60 degrees. The cold plunge that I use daily is 55....and it hurts. I've never been that cold in the water. I didn't get in more than 3 minutes before my heat took off. I just couldn't stomach it. And it was probably a good idea. It was just insanely cold. Did I mention how cold it was? Got in, tried to put my face in. Waited until start and then froze for 9:43. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was about survival! Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on my ankles, but overall pretty good considering I hadn't seen my wetsuit since last year. New bike shoes are awesome! What would you do differently?: Figure out how to get my wetsuit off more efficiently. Bike
Comments: Awesome! New bike, new pedals, new aerobar shifters = 1 mph faster than last year! I'm very happy with 18.3 average. I am not a good biker and I was very happy with this performance. Stayed in aero position 95% of the time, only had to come out for some turns and rough roads. What would you do differently?: Keep training. It can only get better. Transition 2
Comments: In, out. Forgot to take my helmet off so had to throw it on the side of the road. Embarassing, but nothing that slowed me down to much. What would you do differently?: Helmet. Off. Run
Comments: This course is CRAZY. Starts with a wonderful steep uphill and then proceeds to go onto muddy trails and then ends with a full flight of stairs. Really had a good time though. Walked a couple of the really steep stuff. Figured it wasn't worth it to get burned out. Happy with my average. What would you do differently?: The proverbial....train more. Post race
Warm down: Walked and talked. Met and talked with my husband and son. Watched Sarah and Steffen finish. Ate some chips. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not too much. I've really improved. Train more. Train on trails. Get more confident. Event comments: When the times were posted (not age groups, but overall) I thought I might end up 3rd in my age group. This is a big deal considering 4 years ago I never ran more than a mile. So I decided to stay for the awards and see what would happen. Ends up, I took first! The one woman in front of me took 3rd over all. Amazing. Something I will remember forever. Never, ever thought I would be able to make these improvement. Will never be crazy fast....but getting better. Last updated: 2010-08-02 12:00 AM

Woke up 45 minutes late!! Couldn't believe I slept through my alarm. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode with the guy that sleep through his alarm for a marathon. It was a terrible feeling. But I rushed around, grabbed a granola bar and flew out the door. Drove way to fast (and it was really foggy). Got there. Parked as far away from transition as you could get. Road my bike into transition. Then discovered race was delayed due to fog.
Walked and talked.
