Swim
Comments: Given how little training I've done this season, I can't believe how good this swim was for me. Felt like I had good form throughout and stayed pretty much straight the whole time. Also this was one of the least chaotic starts I've ever had, only got hit a few times before settling into a pace. Only thing that could've made the swim faster was if I had some opportunities to draft. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this swim was much better than I hoped for. Transition 1
Comments: Once you come out of the water you are basically already in transition, which makes for a fast time, but when it was time to get ready to bike I was still quite dizzy. The wetsuit gave me some issues but overall this was a decent T1. What would you do differently?: A little practice taking off my wetsuit might've helped out here Bike
Comments: More than the other two legs of the race, my lack of training really showed up here. Its really tough to get into any kind of rhythm on this course because its so up and down, you are never in the same gear for very long. I was able to ride the steeper hills well, but on flats or slight grades I had a hard time pushing the pace. Considering the course and my fitness level, this split was solid. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition here. Got my feet out of the shoes quickly and had a very quick/simple T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Given how poor my training has been, this leg was the hardest to predict coming in, I really wasn't sure what to expect. As I was running I had no idea how fast or slow I was going. I just knew I was in pain but if I sucked it up I could probably hang on for the whole 3 miles. Turns out I was right and breaking 21:00 was faster than I hoped for. The best part was I arranged to finish with my dog Indy for the last 50 yards or so and that was sooo much fun! What would you do differently?: Nothing really, very solid effort on the run. I used my experience from the marathon more than once to mentally keep pushing past the pain and desire to let up, something I'll probably do more than a few times down the road because it worked great. Post race
Warm down: Hopped back in the lake to cool off then went back to watch Andrew finish. Did some stretching too. What limited your ability to perform faster: In case I didn't state it enough already, my training has been pretty bad this season. Event comments: I really love this race. It just has a good vibe to it and the venue is really nice. I'll definitely be back next year. Last updated: 2010-08-02 12:00 AM

English muffin, half a clif bar and some fruit then headed over the race site with my friend Andrew, who was also racing.
I wanted to do a normal warmup, but there was some mix up with my USAT number that caused me to barely have time to get my wetsuit on before the start.
