Overall Rank = 48/458

Age Group Rank = 8/23
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:20. Showered and shaved. Packed my transition bag and rode my bike downtown on the 2nd half of the course.
Event warmup:

Commute to race ~6 miles. ~1 mile jog to swim start along canal.
Swim
  • 29m 42s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

First time in a wetsuit for me. Goggles fogged up ~200 into in. My 1000 split was ~1830. First 1000 navigation was really good. I actually caught people, which for me, was a shock. Last 500 including turns, making my navigation really poor. Need to work on that.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Wetsuit got stuck on my heels, but it was a pretty good transition. Put shoes on and ran to bike mount. Step over mount. I had practiced left clip with a moving swing over, but didn't feel comfortable in race situation.
What would you do differently?:

Practice wetsuit exit and flying mount.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 11s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 23.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Some rough areas, but I am familiar with the area as I live right off the course so to me, it wasn't terrible. Also, first time on my new T2 clipons. Only got passed by 3 people.
What would you do differently?:

Start faster, I was spinning in too low of a gear the first 4-5 miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Tongue got folded on both of my mayfly's, which slowed me down a bit. First time using elastic laces which helped a bunch.
Run
  • 41m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Took the run too easy. I caught 1 of the guys that passed me on the bike in the first mile of the run. Took a gel between miles 2 and 3. Sips of water at miles 1, 3, and 5.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder. One guy I caught asked me "at what point are you going to stop goofing off and start racing?"
Post race
Event comments:

Need racing flats with more support for longer races. Need more time on aero bars, stresses different muscles. I felt like I could have gone faster, just not used to how much I need to leave in the tank for tri's. I felt like i was a 6or7/10 on my exertion level. Really enjoyed myself and had a good time.
