Swim
Comments: I was in wave 23 out of 25 and even though the were cutting down the time between waves I started about an 1:10 after the first wave of pros. Immediately had problem with my googles and could not maintain a good seal so I swam with water in my right eye the entire way. Really was not that bad but I was afraid I was going to lose my contact in that eye...ultimately I told myself to hell with it just swim. The swim seemed to take longer than I thought, although my time would indicate that my thought was incorrect. If there was no current it probably would have taken me another 15 minutes. What would you do differently?: More time in the pool. I had heard so much about the current and downhill swim that I did not put in the time in the pool that I should have. Transition 1
Comments: There was pretty long way from swim exit to T1...I did not run just walked. Used the wetsuit strippers who were great. Obviously by my time I took alot longer than most. Was slowed a little by trying to put my compression sleeves on. I have never really worried about transition times since this was my first real season but in the future I really need to work on this. Bike
Comments: Bike computer quit working about 8 miles in so I had to do the math between the miles markers (every 5 miles). I did not feel bad on the bike and I was trying to make sure I had something left in my legs so I did not go all out. However, looking at my time this is obviously my main weakness. I averaged a good 3 mph slower than a couple of my training partners. I use an entry level road bike with no aeros so I am sure that makes some difference, but the main issue is the motor. I need to continue putting in the miles. I made a lot of improvements this season but there is still alot of room for more improvement. Transition 2
Comments: Walked the bike in and went down the wrong transition asile. Changed socks which I think I had to do. Still comparing my transition times with others....I am just plain slow. Run
Comments: Started out pretty good. The run is the strongest part for me and I was going at a pretty good pace until 8 miles or so then the wheels started to wooble. Had to walk a few times, which ususally is the beginning of the end for me but was able to restart each time. What would you do differently?: Started to cut distance a little too early. I think a few extra over distance runs during training might have been helpful. Post race
Warm down: Was not feeling too good for about 45 minutes after the finish. I was sore which I expect but I also had the nauseous overheated feeling. What limited your ability to perform faster: Started to get warm at the end, but ultimately there were no external factors....just need to continue to train and improve times Event comments: This was the biggest race that I have ever done and I have to believe the logistics are a nightmare. That said they did a great job. Even the lines for check in the day before, while long, moved pretty quickly. The event volunteers were great and I am not aware of them running out of anything other than medals....that was the only negative. Some of the athletes that finished after me did not receive medals as they ran out. I am not really sure how that happens. Registration is cut off about 3 weeks out and there are always no shows so I can't think of an excuse for not having enough finsher medals. Regardless, the medal issue aside, the event was very well done. Last updated: 2010-08-03 12:00 AM

Did not really sleep much, but I expected that as I was excited about the race. Got up "officially" at 4 am and had PB sandwich , banana, coffee and about 16 oz of gatorade
No warm up, figured I was going to be doing enough during the race.
