Comments:

I lined up on the inside and a little toward the back - reasoning was thinking I would be one of the slower swimmers. This proved to be the wrong choice. It was like bumper car swimming, and I could not get settled into a steady stroke, but I did get to site my route. And until now, after the event, I never thought of a line up strategy. I know what to do next time. But despite all that, I did well on my time, so its all good. No regrets.

Comments:

This leg I hate to think/talk about. About 1 mile from the bike finish, I hit the really rough section of road, and poped my rear tire. While thinking of myself as a complete idiot, I hoped of the bike in a panic to fix it. As I am pulling the tire off, one of the volunteers across the street sees me floundering and getting even more upset he runs over to check on me. He offered me words of encouragement and told me to stay focused. As I got the tire fixed and back on the bike, I reslized I screwed up huge. In my rush to fix the tire, I did not seat the tube at one spot and when I inflayted the tire I punctured the tube. Checking my watch at this point, I had wasted nearly 6 minutes. At this point I am going out of my mind with frustration. I then pulled off the tire, and start it all over again. Thats when the volunteer strongly suggested I let him fix the tire. ***I can not say enough good things about the volunteer. What a guy. Also, the other competitors, what a great group of people. There were several other individuals who were willing to stop and help, amazing. I will take that same attitude with me to all the events.*** In the end of that tire problem, I lost over 10 minutes

Course: course site seeing - great, we got to ride in the naval shipyard with all the ships, and the roads in this area were newly paved. However, there were way to many turns. This really slowed the pace potential.
