Pre-race routine:

Woke up early (4:00 am), had a banana and a whole wheat english muffin with cashew butter for breakfast. Began drinking water to make sure I was hydrated. Had abut an hour ride to the race site, so we left a little early. Drank some water and at about 5:15 drank a Gatorade G2 protein shake. Drank some more water, and at about 7:30 began drinking a Gatorade G2 carb drink. Set up transition area and made myself familiar with the entry and exit points for all the transitions.
Event warmup:

Did a little stretching, and walked around a little. Took a quick dip into the indoor pool at the facility.
Swim
  • 07m 8s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

The pool was nice, although the lanes seemed to be a little narrow. I was doing good on my first lane, and when I crossed under the lane rope, some guy was swimming on my side and we collided. He was not passing anyone, just wasn't swimming on his side of the lane. This caused me to get out of rythym and it took me some time to get my stroke back. It also caused me to panic a little and always being concerned when I changed directions that he wouldn't be there again.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my breathing stayed consistent, and not overly labored.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

This is the fastest T1 I have had. I used Bodyglide for the first time and it really helped me get into my shoes alot faster than without it. I didn't worry about wiping off as much as I had in the past to try to speed up my times.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1 more.
Bike
  • 40m 58s
  • 11.4 miles
  • 16.70 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course was nicely thouht out and easy to follow. I wasn't expecting quite as many hills as there were. The pavement changes were noticable, but not unbearable. I liked the course the hills were longer ones that required a little more endurance climbing as opposed to short burts up the hill.
What would you do differently?:

As I already know, work on my hill climbing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I again used body glide on my shoes to make it easier to put them on, and have found a new favorite tool. This sped up my T2 dramatically since my last race. When I got to my rack someone didn't do such a good job racking their bike, and I had to do some moving of their bike so I could get mine in the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry about the othe bike in my area, just get my bike on the rack, and get out of T2.
Run
  • 38m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I haven't had the opportunity to do much running over the last two weeks coming up to the race due to A/C problems, and I could tell on the run. I began cramping up a little in my thighs early on, and had some discomfort in my left foot. The hills in this course were not as bad as expected, but still did offer some challenge for me. My time suffered dramatically due to no running leading up to the race.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure to do more running and some bricks in the time leading up to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Did some stretching, and drank some water, had a banana, and some more water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training leading up to the race. I should have made more time to do some running but didn't. Giving any reason here would just be an excuse, I should have made more time for training.

Event comments:

The race was well organized and well staffed, as all setupevents.com races are. This is a race I would do again.
